My first thread- Iron Patriot cardboard pep helmet

Got the second coat of body filler applied, sanding soon :)

What i've managed to get to, is some sanding of the second bondo layer and then i decided to spray on some old paint i had, just to give me an idea of the areas that have imperfections or need adjustments. I'll get the third layer of bondo on in errrm.... before the new school term in September!
If anything looks odd please let me know!

I used 120 grit sandpaper to get a better finish and I realised spraying red paint before i was done properly sanding this layer, was a bad idea. At this point now though, I can see which areas need filling or repairing (in the pic you can see where the cheek indent isn't very straight where it should be and other little places) - have a look :rolleyes

I've got the third layer of body filler on and have sanded it with medium and fine grit sandpapers. I also reshaped the part on the eyebrow. Everything seems fine, maybe a bit more sanding and then I will move onto cutting off the faceplate and the indents where necessary. Please let me know if anything looks odd or if you have any useful advice!
-Also, on some areas of the helmet I have sanded too much and the cardboard has come through, will this be a problem? I needn't sand those areas further, just paint.

Update- just come back from holiday and will have a look at the helmet asap, not too much left to do before i cut it apart ahahah, dreading that! :eek i have some other things to take care of atm so i will probably post more about the helmet within the next 2 weeks. I am trying to stay consistent and have you updated! :D

okay, I've managed to remove the faceplate and back piece, the faceplate was simple enough but the back piece i needed to cut off more than i did so now basically the back piece is in one large bit with the little tab part that needs reattaching and filling etc, also my head still couldn't fit through the gap at this point so i have cut away part of the under chin. Everything seems fine, just need to put filler on the exposed and damaged areas and then i shall use my dremel to cut the detail lines (on the mohawk, etc). Please let me know if anything looks odd or if i can make any improvements. I'm dying to paint it!!

Cut the detail lines in and sprayed several coats of chrome paint all over the helmet as well as some probably unnecessary clear coat on the areas that are going to remain this silverish colour. All in all I am pleased with today's outcome. Hopefully i'll get the blue on tomorrow. STAY TUNED :lol

I've used masking tape to cover up areas and then apply the spray paint, the blue is on and dry and the red paint is literally drying as I type this, I bought a new shade of blue that is lighter because I think the colour that is on now is a bit too dark.

ok well basically the paint job is a mess and i'm going to redo it when i can get the time which i can't imagine will be very soon... pics will explain more

Sprayed on a new metallic blue, really happy with this new colour. The red just seems to want to peel off hmmm- red to be re painted next and then maybe small bits of silver/chrome.

Update- I've repainted the chrome/silver and it now looks more metallic. I also used red acrylic art paint that luckily was the exact same colour as the sprayed red paint on the helmet; I used a small brush to paint the areas of the helmet where the red spray paint had peeled off. I then used a fine paint brush and acrylic black paint to add the detail lines here and there. The paintwork is now pretty much finished! (only negatives of the finished paintwork is that some little areas look patchy and show different colours underneath when looked upon closely) Overall I am pleased. I also added a little mesh thing into the cheeks and it sorta looks rough mainly due to the hot glue :facepalm. I'm not too sure whether to sort out the faceplate hinges now or set up the lights- If anyone knows any ways, tips or videos on a hinge then please let me know here. Thanks.

Quick update- I've set up the hinge for the faceplate and it opens and closes but i need to adjust it so that the faceplate stays up when worn (it stays up when its not being worn oddly enough) So next i think i'll set up the lights because I have them ready to install and then lastly I will set up the back piece (I hate that part). No pics today :p

Haven't been posting lately due to school and other things, this project will most likely continue in a month or so when I get half term holidays. Stay tuned!

Have this pic I took ;)

well, long time no post!... I've gotten the eyes in place and they work fine! the faceplate doesn't like to stay up when the helmet is worn and using rubber bands doesn't work too well mainly because the hot glue can't hold the bands well enough. If anyone has suggestions on how i can alter the faceplate to stay up that would be great! i think the only thing i need to get done now is the rear part of the helmet- attaching it by hinge or something. And it seems that due to me using so much hot glue on the faceplate, its warped a bit and now it doesn't line up as well with the rest of the helmet- not a huge problem but something a bit annoying!
(next update my be in a while)

For the few people who are interested in this thread- I think i'm done with it ahaha I am going to leave the helmet as is, with a dodgy faceplate and a back piece that is held on by electrical tape! It all looks great in my opinion and I am happy withe outcome! thanks for watching! :lol
