Okay so I bought this kit to build for my grandfather. This is my first resin kit. Is there a certain type/brand of glue I should use? I'd like to gather all the materials while the model is being shipped so I'm ready to go when it arrives. Thanks,

John

Use C/A glue like zap a gap or something along those lines (basically super glue) That works best with resin. And get some spray on accelerator to harden the glue immediatly. Hobby shops carry both.

For gluing resin to resin parts, you should use 5 minute, 2 part epoxy (available at any hardware store). For gluing disimialr materials (i.e. metal to resin), use super glue.

Before you do anything else though, make sure you wash all the peices in hot, soapy water and allow to dry overnight. This will get rid of all the release agents and allow glues and paints to adhere.

Thanks for the info. Will the epoxy allow me to paint certain pieces and then attach them or do I have to glue before I paint?

I've used both 2-part epoxy or 'generic' super glue on resin kits with great results.
I usually use the epoxy for larger assemblies that need more structural strength.
If you're going to paint some subassemblies before putting them together, just use a sharp X-acto blade and scrape away the paint on the joining surfaces. You shouldn't have any problems.
