My First project! Iron Man Helmet

Re: My First project!

Very nice work man. I wanted to do the Iron Man suit for halloween for my kids this year too but I found this site too late so it'll have to wait till next year I guess. Think I'll make all 3 of my boys a whole suit and they can be my little IM army lol I'm working on a helmet right now as my first pep project. Hopefully it comes out as good as yours looks. Keep up the good work bud!

Re: My First project!

here we go iron man again ><

well done
Thanks
done a good job colors are:thumbsup nice
Thanks! I was pleased with this choice of color. I got lucky!!
I am always amazed how someone can create an incredbile piece of art like this. Fantastic.
Thanks!
That is one clean build. I have one ready for the resin but I was wondering, how did you get the indented lines along the sides to fold clean and smooth?
Thank you!. I used a razor to score the lines, tweezers and a thin metal ruler to place the paper on for the crease. When I was doing the bondo I didn't put bondo in the groove. I went back after the helmet took a better shape and filled in the groove using a different color hardener in the bondo. That gave me a contrast difference to follow for sanding. You could use primer too.

LOL! I wanted to make my boys full suits too. I am settling for finishing the helmet and going to cast it for copies for them. It will be big on them, but I won't have to put months into different sized helmets that they will only be able to wear once. Good luck on your build! Take your time with it and it will come out at least as good as mine if not better. Glad you like.!

Re: My First project!

I am going to call this semi-finished. Here are the photo's of the paint and detail paint.

Thats bad ass! How did you do the eye lights? Could you post some pictures of the set up if you don't mind? I thought about making a MK8 or 42, War Machine, and Iron Patriot helmet and then attempt to cast it and make multiples but I dk where I would even start with that.

Just some card stock and white opaque acrylic made the eyes.

Once I installed the LED's I closed it up and wrapped in electrical tape to prevent the light from leaking out.

Great work.. keep it up !!
Thank you!

Re: My First project!

Nice work on your first pep, I'm working on my first pep (x-wing helmet from fierfek, less details) which isn't nearly as good as yours.

Thanks RvanAken! I am quite proud of it. I will be doing more work to it in the near future. You can't see it in the photo's but the right side is larger than the left by about 1/4" among other things. I want this as good as I can get it, so when I cast copies for my kids they will have the best I can give. Good luck on you build.

Re: My First project!

Anyone think this servo would be good for the face plate?? its cheap $19.00
View attachment 248673
Metal servo mount :U holder + round servo mount One piece sepcification: Size:40*20*40.5 Weight:60g Wire length:320MM Speed: 0.18sec/60 degree at(6v) 0.16sec/60 degree at(7.2) Torque: 14kg.cm.at(6v) 15kg.cm.at(7.2) Voltage: 4.8v-7.2v Dead Zoon setting:4 Microseconds Rotation Angle:maximum 180 degrees(Plug/Output wheel/Radio control system compatible with Futaba JR Hitec)
So no one has an opinion on this servo?

Redoing the helmet is on hold for now. But I am now making more ark reactors for the boy's.

Here is the one I already made

Work in progress
IMG_20131127_071220_368.jpg

I would like to know what SMD LED would be bright. Should I be looking for a 5050 19 lumen for example. and where to buy.
I used a LED light strip(From a hobby shop now out of stock) and a nine light flashlight board (cheapy from HD) for the one I made but I would like these brighter to shine thru a shirt.

Hopefully someone can give suggestions or input! Please help. I don't want to purchase a bunch of SMD an not suit my purpose.

Thanks,
Nick

Check out xrobots.co.uk he's a member here and has a youtube channel and there's a video he has on there with led's he used for the arc reactor. How did you build yours?

I had checked out a few of his video's, However he used a 1 watt flashlight light it seems and 5mm LEDS. I was looking for the SMD leds and make my own board.

I made the layers out of plexiglass. 5mm and 3mm and cut out using a scroll saw. lights I used are in my previous post.

I am still side tracked on making arc reactors for my kids. So i found out my best friend had access to a 3d printer. I drew up 2d plans for what I wanted and he modeled over mine and made me some pieces. Still making some adjustments.

The pieces all separate

I guess this looks like the Iron Man 3 Ark reactor
IMG_20131213_200553_965.jpg

And the final assembly of what I wanted.

Progress will be slow do to the holidays and cold weather, but at least its something.

What are your thoughts!!!!

BTW still looking for input on the servo a few post back and question about LED'S .

I little progress on the arc reactors. The one on the left is the one I made with plexi glass and cut with a scroll saw. The other three are 3D prints. I started to smooth one piece with spot filler. I had some lights left over from the first one and put in the one on the right. just stuffed them in to see the look. I ended up buying some cool white SMD LEDs and resistors. They will be here in a few days. Hopefully they work out.

I also took a leap and bought the servo in my previous post for the face mask. Hopefully it works out for me.

While waiting for parts on order, I thought I'd take a stab at doing a set gloves using Zabana's file. I only did the left and still need to finish. I don't want to do do a ton of these trying to get the size right but does it too small?? I did this at 1-1 scale. Seams like they fit now not sure after I harden them and Are you supposed to keep the gloves in to halfs when Finished.? Not sure how to go about that when I get to that stage.

Your thoughts??

Should be getting back to work on this soon. Been so busy at home and work. I've got the left palm almost done the fingers not so close, Also got the chest, back and neck seal put together still need to harden. Pics will follow in a few weeks or so.

Finally got a bit of free time in the garage.

Real close to being able to put some body filler on.

I also purchased Projectearth7's motorized hinge system. Worked great till my daughter dropped it and stripped the gears. I tried to replace the servos but not had luck getting it to function properly since the incident. So I have been trying to make my own servo board. Got it to work but still need a ton of tweaking and I may even need to scrap and start over:( . As soon as I figure out how to upload video's I'll post the only video I was able to get of Projectearth7's system 2 minutes before my girl dropped it.

I got the link to the video now

Great job man!! Could you show what type of leds you used? I'm trying to do the same effect but I can only get a spot point of light with led and it doesn't diffuse from all over the surface... :( thanks!

This thread popped up because it has a Featiured image in it (february 2022)....
Probably not relevant after so long, but you can get Ring LEDs now:
