My First Kerbal Space Program Prop and Costume

Hello All,

There is a wonderful gem of a video game called Kerbal Space Program. It is sort of mashup between building and flying rockets with Lego-like rocket parts and managing a space program, juggling reputation, funds and science. All of this is done through the lens of Kerbals, small (not little!) green bipedal creatures who are native to the planet Kerbin.
The game is recognized for its amazing ability to teach some complex orbital mechanics with a "good enough" physics engine and lots and lots of rocket explosions.
In addition to being an early backer of the game and highly invested fan of the game I've also become a modder - creating or assisting others with creating add-on's for the game.
Lastly I have become a cosplayer and prop replicator(?) of the game as well. Here are a few photos of my first pass at a "Jebediah Kerman" cosplay along with a (not to scale) Kerbal rocket prop.

The individual rocket parts are: The Mk1 Command Pod, 2 OX-STAT solar panels, a FL-T200 Fuel Tank, and lastly a LV-T45 "Swivel" Liquid Fuel Engine. I used a lot of foam in their construction along with a fair amount of duct tape, trash cans, etc.

The costume is a surplus aviation jumpsuit I bought online, with a few painted PVC pieces for hose attachments as well as a few pouches and packs painted orange.
The helmet is actually made from a plastic beer keg. Yep. I added some lighting and with some ducttape and plastic bags made my "snoopy cap" I'm wearing underneath.

Ad Astra!

Sadly the rocket was sacrificed to my move a few years ago. The next cosplay I did was as "John" a rocket mechanic who works for Jeb's Junkyard and Spaceship Parts. My mother-in-law created the beautiful embroidery for the shirt. Makeup is not my specialty although I like how the eyes worked out. :)

Nice!

So can you actually see through one or both of the eyes?

(My Kerbal "costume" was mostly photoshoppery, alas.)

Awesome! I could BARELY see out of one of the eyes! For any future cosplay, I need a better eyeball solution! For some reason I like the idea of makeup and prosthetics instead of "full mask".

Maybe painted mesh hemispheres for eyeballs?

There was a group of people who went to Dragon Con about three years ago as Kerbals. Giant full-head masks, and they looked out of the mouth, which had a black silk chiffon screen to keep their real faces from being seen. Reddit thread here, which links to some WIP pics. Really well done (though I imagine getting through doors would be as tricky as manually flying to Mun and back).
