My Captain America Finished 07/22!

Hey guys,
After I started on the shield, I decided to go for the whole costume. I'm trying to do it on a budget, so I'm mostly using things around the house. I started with what looked in reference pics to be sort of an under jacket: I based this with an old denim shirt, and added on from there. The technique for the padded section is exactly the same as imnotahero (BTW, this guy has an awesome build going and that's what gave me the inspiration to do this!).The white fabric is from an old lightweight martial arts uniform.

The main blue parts that will be showing are the back of some blue corduroy I had lying around. It seemed to have a very similar texture to the movie fabric. Still need to finish the shoulder pads then add all the strapping.

The helmet is the only part worrying me right now. I started with a pepakura file and assembled it out of foam - unfortunately, there were many imperfections that showed and deep seams that are not filled with Plasti-Dip spray. So, I'm trying to fill/cover with silicone caulking. It needs a wire frame for shaping, but is very flexible.

Here's one with everything together:

Dude. Great build. How did the poly fill stuff work? Lord knows I could always use something like that on my foam Iron man and THOR builds. Great sewing work by the way.

Re: My Captain America WIP

Thanks man. The polyfill is working alright - it's doing the job of filling and covering great, but I'm still working out a way to smooth it. I've been keeping up with your Thor build - also very inspiring!

A few updates: almost finished with the shoulder pads, just working on the strapping that runs on the border. I'm not sure if I'm going to create a back out of the corduroy or leave it open with the denim. If I have enough material and time I probably will.

OK, finished the suit just in time for the movie premier last night! Didn't get to add several details to the pants, and not happy at all with the helmet. But, I'm currently happy with it. Going to slowly start upgrading the the Avengers version, cast shield in fiberglass, etc.

Here it is:

Hi. I know this is an old thread but have you tried doing a scratch build helmet using the plastic bag and duct tape technique. I used this technique for my batman cowl and I also used wall filler like a clay. I think you'll be able to get all the details and correct shaping done this way and which is more, it will be a completly CUSTOM fit to YOUR head.

I hope this was useful because you have inspired me to make a display Cap helmet.
