My Adventures in 3D Printing

My P1S has been a game changer for quick projects. I have little time to tinker and it means I knock out a project in a fraction of the time. Im fitting a part or making up the next 3D file while another prints and its like an assembly line! The detail and smoothness (especially when ironing) is mind blowing. I almost never sand and paint anymore if its a colour I can use from the filament. I use raw parts for a lot of it! They look like manufactured parts and more realistic than painted usually! I made an SMG style blaster to go with my Pistol in a weekend again. Did the 3D parts up through the week in spare time at work and banged it together on a wood frame over the weekend. If you're on the fence with a printer, a P1S or X1.. or new H2D is phenomenal. (Not a paid presentation! lol)
Everything u said right here is SPOT ON. Beautiful build as well by the way!

Well my H2D combo arrived!

Well packaged. Pretty straightforward to set up, calibrate, and bind to the Bambu app.

First test print, a Benchy, was successful! No issues!

Tried a color-combo print - again, no issues! Although I’m looking forward to learning more about the H2D and hope it optimizes multi-coloring prints as to minimize waste.

Next up will be testing out the cutter and plotter before moving on to the laser.

People’s thoughts on the creality K2 my next purchase only because of bed size with multi colour print, seen some reviews but I need real world user comments please

I don’t have any experience with Creality printers so can’t help you there…

Tested the cutter and plotter yesterday! Overall, straightforward to set up. You need a totally separate Bambu app though - Bambu Suite. I understand why it needs to be separate but would have preferred everything be integrated into a single app.

Something else I don’t like is you have to verify the equipment and materials are correct ON THE PRINTER before it will start a job for cutting or plotting. This is unlike the 3D printing function where you can start everything remotely. I’m hoping this is just because these are new functions and everything will be able to be done remotely in the future but kind of a pain for now…

Demo file for the cutter - a Happy Birthday card. The poor centering was user error.

Used the plotter to draw my logo. Need some finer tipped markers but pretty cool for a quick demo!

I have some shelving on order where I’ll be putting the H2D in my workshop. I’ll be integrating it into my existing ventilation system before I fire up the laser!

I've had a creality CR-10 for a number of years that is a workhorse printer. Slow, but reliable. On the flipside I had an ender 3 that printed 4 things and then never printed anything else. It decided the printer was overheating, even after I changed out the temp sensors and OS software it just never ran again. I contacted creality (who has solid customer service) and they offered to send me another motherboard for it, but I declined. I picked up a high speed Anycubic Neo 3 instead and I'm here to say that printer is a freaking hot rod.

So, you are saying this bad boy is like 5 machines?

Any chance on a router head?

Yes, exactly - it's a 3D printer, cutter, plotter, laser cutter, and laser engraver, all in one!

I am curious to see how the laser works with all of this. I don't have a laser right now, but I understand they kick up a lot of particulate. I'm curious to see how the filtering system handles all of that in hopes it doesn't gunk up the internals of the machine to the point where the other tools can't function.

Guess we'll see...

No router head, that I'm aware of, but who knows where they'll take this!

They promo'd a filtration system AND a FIRE EXTINGUISHER EDITION!!!!!

Was able to cut out some vinyl graphics for one of my costume totes.

Used some stock Cricut products from Michael’s but looking to see what else might be out there.

Any other recommendations for vinyl and/or transfer paper?

Actually, the cricket transfer product and their tape is very rugged, surprisingly.

Professional grade would be oracal for both the vinyl heat transfer material and the transfer tape. One of maybe 3 brands, worldwide, that is absolutely trusted by pro shops.

Thanks! I’ll check them out!

Was able to hook the H2D up to my workshop ventilation system this weekend (and moved my P1S next to it):

So I finally got to fire up the laser!

The lines in the top right were the Bambu test file, which neatly cut lines through the supplied paperboard.

I then ran a quick test with my website logo. Not bad!

Really excited about the potential this thing has!

Do you have the fire suppression unit as well?

I do not...I don't know that it's out yet as I don't see it on the Bambu site...

I do have a fire blanket and extinguisher in my shop as a general principle, although I hope I never have to spray that inside the printer as I'm pretty sure it will be ruined after that...

I'm also waiting on the rotary attachment so I can work on round objects like metal water bottles or coffee cups.

I think you mean wands, staffs and lightsabers

Wanted to try out some TPU prints so I printed these wearable sneakers for my kids.

Because of how soft TPU is, you need a special type to run it through the AMS. Otherwise, you need to run it through a special feed on the H2D.

It also prints hella slow. Each pair of these took over 4 days!

But in the end, a great test checking off a few boxes for me:
  • Long print duration. Even recovered from a power outage during the first pair!
  • TPU printing. Its has some great applications if you can get it to work. I could never get it to print on my AnyCubic machines but both the H2D and P1S handle it with no issues!
  • Using a different material for supports - these used PLA supports. Because of the difference in material, the supports came right off.
  • H2D filament saving mode - one of my few complaints with the P1 series is they waste a ton of filament when printing different materials. The dual nozzle on the H2D helps remedy that. While it still uses a purge tower, no filament pooping for these prints!
