I've sent MR an emeil about the shipping date of the Science Tricorder and here's what they told me:

Danny,

The first 300 units that were ordered will ship in the next 2 weeks. The following orders will ship shortly thereafter.

Thank you,

Out of the blue, my tricorder just arrived!

I like it. It's metal, and heavy. I need to run out at lunch to get a tiny screwdriver so that I can install the batteries and see it all lit up.

It looks really nice, I can't wait to get mine.

I saw over at the MR Forum that a few people's credit cards have been charged. So, it seems they are starting to be delivered to the first 300 people that ordered them direct from MR.

Yup, they hit my credit card on Tuesday but it still doesn't show it as shipped just as "DOWNLOADED TO FC"

The question is, can you display it open or is it another case of displayed closed?

From the picture above it looks like it can be displayed either way.

It displays wide open and looks nice in the case. Taking some photos with lights right now. Will post momentarily.

Here are a few more pics with lights. Yep, you can display it open or closed. There is no on/off switch to turn it off while open but after a couple minutes it turns off on its own. Nice display, very much in keeping with the other Trek displays except for the black base (same as assault phaser).

You unscrew the back panel to install the 3 AAA batteries (not included). So be sure to have your batteries and a precision screwdriver ready upon arrival. The screws are extremely tiny phillips head screws, but I found I could not get a grip on them even with my tiniest phillips screwdriver. I ended up using a tiny flathead screwdriver and that seemed to work ok.

The tricorder comes with an unattractive clear sticker on the shoulder stating the device's FCC compliance, but the sticker came off clean and easily for me.

MR may have just hit this one out of the park! That really looks great!

Hows the sound?

The sound seems good to me. It's not too loud, not too quiet and the quality seems very good to me. I'm not an audio expert, though.

Lot of yellow lights! Where are the greens? The top clear rod/bar should be purple, in a series of red, blue, red, red, blue, red to make the purple bar?

Looks very impressive from the pictures. I just might have to pick one up. I was worried they would idealize a few of the more organic features of the screen used pieces, but it looks like they really did a nice translation. Good stuff.
