MR Fett Blaster Accurizing Thread

I recently purchased an MR Fett Blaster and overall I very happy with it but it does need a few modifications to make it more accurate and it will need to be refinished.

It is important to break the prop down into it's separate components to determine the best way to incorporate the modifications.

I will use this thread to chronicle my progress.

REMOVING THE STOCK AND METAL STOCK BRACKET

I started by removing the Stock and Metal Stock Bracket from the Grip Frame.

In order to do this you must remove the slotted screw from the left side. It is made from cheap metal and it might be epoxied in place so you have to apply a lot of pressure to break it free without stripping out the slot.

Once it is removed the right grip will come off.

After you have removed the right grip lay the replica with it's right side facing up. You should see four phillips screws (indicated in my image by red dots) and two 5/16 pins (indicated in my image by yellow dots).

The phillips screws are made from cheap metal so you have to apply a lot of pressure to break them free without stripping out the heads.

The pins are very difficult to remove. I had to drill them out which destroyed them so new pins will have to be found. The top in started to spin as I drilled it and as I retracted the drill bit it came out. The bottom pin was more secure and I had to complete drill it out to remove the bracket.

Here is what you should have once your are done:

Thanks for sharing!

This - in addition to ripcodes thread- will be very helpful once I get my MR EE-3 ;)

Hey all

I´m in the process of accurizing a MR fett blaster myself.
Thanks to David I got my hands on one that I already took apart and filled/ sanded the unneeded holes.

Problem is that I don´t have any reference pics of the ROTJ blasters LEFT side. :unsure Could anybody please help a fellow blasterbuilder out?

I´d really appreciate, thanks in advance

Markus :)

In general, the barrel is the most accurate part that fans never had any good data on until the MR. That is the part that was made in-house for 'Jedi and the real prop is a Webley cast. It is a generally good representation of the blaster and, I think, jumps well ahead of popular fan-made replicas to date. Everything else is a judgment call of how far you want to go. It is not a direct cast of a Webley, nor is it of the same material as the original prop. On the other extreme, the most inaccurate parts are the receiver greeblies (70's 1/32 Revell F-4E) and scope eye piece.

The pursuit of accuracy really depends on how accurate you want to make it (and from what distance you're looking at it). If you're going to stamp the same serial number in it as the original and find the original T-track, that'd be pretty accurate :love.

Single Seat...got any pics of the blasters LEFT side?

I´d appreciate, Markus :)

I read Ripcodes thread, but still am confused on a few things:
For example, the Phantom F-4 greeblies: what's wrong with them?

Is it possible that there were two made, and the one that MR photographed, measured and laser-scanned is not the one that goes on tour (where we get most of our CU photographs)?

Just postulating, and curious.

One thing's for sure: you could club a man to death with that thing it weighs so much! (not that I would, nor would I endorse such practice).

Hey Mike

I already took the blaster apart and was able to compare the MR greeblies to the original Phantom 2 kit parts. Don´t know for sure what they did, but IMHO they just scratchbuilt/ simplified this part since its nowhere near as detailed as the original piece. The overall size is good, but it´s too thick in some areas.

I´ll try to take a comparsion pic tonight.

And YES, that thing is heavy...the scope alone, which is SOLID weights about 2 pounds :eek

Here´s a comparsion between the MR details and the real model kit parts.
Not only is the shape significantly simplified, but the overall length and thickness variies as well...

Please share how you removed the MR details

And do you have an extra set of real details you can sell me :)

Thanks for the comparison, Markus :thumbsup

I'll have to make a cast of those; I have only 1 Phantom and also need those pieces for the ESB DH-17.

I've been waiting for a reason to use that Smooth-on:cool

The MR details are secured in TWO ways...

Each of it has two metal pins, that fit to mating holes in the gun body.
In addition to that they are secured with some kind of glue.

To remove them take a X-acto knive or a screwdriver with a very flat "blade". Slide it under the ends of the details and "wooble" it off (sorry, don´t know how to describe it in english :unsure). You might scratch the gun body a tiny bit, but nothing a liitle filler and primer can´t hide ;)

David...I´ll PM you.

Old screwdriver and hammer.

Use screwdriver like a chisel and whack the part off. :$ Seriously that is how I did mine!

Those details are pinned on and the pins are easily snapped off. Once the bad MR "Phantom" greeblies are off sand off any protruding pin and that area will be ready for the proper greeblie.

ETA: Oops! I see you already explained it Markus! :redface

Yes, a listing of what is not accurate would be nice.

What is not accurate as compared to the real prop:

Paintjob
Scope
Phantom Greeblies on the sides of the cylinder
Visible V8 greeblies on the stock near the grip
Rear Stock Greeblies
T-Track on the barrel

What is the specific Phamtom F4 kit used. I have a vintage kit that was used on the Galactica model but didn't recognize the parts. Was hoping I had the right kit for the Boba blaster.
