MR Falcon

Guys - I'm just about to pull the trigger on this.

It looks wonderful. What a great job MR did.

There has to be more pictures from San Diego. Any links?

Yeah, well , I guess that's pretty good.

Wow. That is really impressive. I wish I had the space and the money. Guess I'll just put those pictures under my pillow for now.

Nice job, MR.

Is the cockpit on the MR Falcon "idealized"?

Looking at shots of the original (at least, the ones I have), I cannot make out the two rear seats. Also, it appears the rear bulkhead of the cockpit on the studio model is just behind the windows, where as on the MR it is set back (to accommodate the rear seats)...

I think I can see the rear seats in the first shot.

Do you mean in those beauty shots Barry posted? Yup -- the MR bird does have four seats...

Although, I'm referring to the original ILM studio model... Did it only have the front two seats?

Simply stunning shots Barry.

I know someone can do a better job than I have regards size, but I'm limited to Wackychimp's hosting size limits.

It's all there.

That Falcon looks beautiful, I can't believe the factory nailed the paint job so well. How likely will it be that the other production models will have this level of paint finish on them? I'm hopeing they didn't just put their best guy on this one. :p I really had written off getting the MR falcon, to me the paint job is what makes that ship and I figured there was no way a factory production model would be up to par, but if this is what the others will look like I'll have to reconsider and get a loan. :D

Just noticed something else, in the pics I looked at from comic con it looked as though the framing around the cockpit door was illuminated whereas It doesn't look that way in the pics you just posted, Barry could you elaborate a bit. Cockpit lighting looks better to me in the pics you just posted above.

The Falcon cockpit is idealized. Similarly to the Studio Scale Snowspeeder, the decision was made to fit the full sized studio interior into the model. All of the movie Falcons had different interiors which looked similar to one another. The cockpit interior was extended for length, with the back wall pushed back in ESB, to give more room for the scenes required to play in there. It has four seats, the bucket seats for Han and Chewie and the two jet fighter seats in back.

A transparency is used to represent the rear wall. It features a myriad of lights and details and the dirty foam panels that surround the door. The version seen in the publicity photos (above) didn't have the door in and so it doesn't show in the pics. The sidewalls are also depicted with art work and the effect of the ambient light in the cockpit area means that they pick up light that's bouncing around in there too.

The Falcon pictured above is Dean Dymerski's first paint master. It was shipped to our factory right after Lucasfilm had approved it and these promotional pics had been taken.

Dean completed two additional beautiful paint masters. They differ subtly from one another and clearly demonstrate the fact that no two paint jobs will ever be exactly the same when painted by hand. They'll be close but not exact. One of these masters was destined for San Diego, however our factory surprised us by delivering their first paint sample on the same day these two arrived from Dean.

The model on display at San Diego Comic Con International was the factory sample. The only thing missing was the actual final backwall and sidewall graphics which were still being worked on. The model at Comic Con is virtually the finished piece that you'll receive. There have been a few minor tweaks to the base size and the positioning of the on/off switch.

Here's a pic I posted earlier of the Comic Con Falcon complete with base, alongside two Dymerski paint masters.

Hope this has answered your questions.

@ Barry

is the mirror base going to adjusted for the final product,
as the reflections looks rather wobbly, it's the one thing
that doesn't look so good to me.

maybe a slight thicker material could overcome that

I'm really considering to replace it with a perspex mirror
or even glass mirror, to get a nice reflection.

and another question (while I'm at it) will it be possible to hang
the display case on a wall.
