Most Underrated Rock Guitarists?

Not really seeing a whole lot of "underrated" guitar players in this thread.

"Diamond/Dimebag" Darrell Abbot might be the most overrated guitar player to ever pick up an axe.

Brad Paisley is a well known country artist that is starting to get some recognition for his playing. Not really a 'rock' guitar player... but his other characteristics definitely outshadow his playing.

Aleksey Vanin is an unknown player, his instrumental cover of Poker face is worth watching.

I'd love to mention James Hetfield, Tony Iommi, Orianthi, Scott Ian, Jim Martin, Alex Skolnick, Rod y Gab and the like. But, they're not really underrated at all.

Mark Tremonti.
Not sure that you could say he's underrated but he's deffinately an 'unknown' here in the UK.
Awesome guitarist.

Agreed. :thumbsup He gets a bad rap over here (due to his association with Creed), but he's become a heck of a player over the years. Really loving his new solo album.

Not sure if he'd be classed as under rated but Richie Sambora is amazing live, also I'd add Scotti Hill and Dave Sabo from Skid Row.

I'm saying they're underated in the mainstream. Most people only reference EVH, SRV, Jimi, and Clapton.

He's not underrated or a big "rock" guy by Carlos Santana is unbelievable on guitar. Joe Satriani is also very good to me. These are guys who treat their guitars like a voice, their notes ARE the lyrics.

Satriani is way overrated if anything

George Harrison. Some amazing chord work and very melodic leads and textures.

some others who I think have their own sound I can always pick them out even when playing with other artists or hearing parst of a song I never heard before...

Dave Navarro

John Frusciante

Larry LaLonde
