Morticia Addams - Addams Family 1&2 FINISHED

Re: Morticia Addams - Addams Family WIP

I did all pressing of the seams and I took out the basting stitches. Had to make a fake snake for a friend today so didn't get much done. But I got 3 out of 6 bottom panels lined and I did a little test with the inner skirt and walking. That worked out pretty well :) No I am not planning to wear this... I just had to make it to fit me so I could work on it more than when using a model :D The heels are dancing shoes I used for Cabaret in which I was half cross dressed.

I trimmed all seam allowances down and finished the panels at the bottom. Also tried this test sleeve with gussets and it is amazing. You have much more mobility than without. You can reach high with yout arms without restrictions.

Of course it's taking more time to get it all done. Pinning, basting, fitting, redoing, fitting and finally sewing! But I have sleeve one set in, including shoulder pad and header. Just need to sew the lining to the arm hole when the rest is done.
Due to a mistake I ran out of lining so sleeve 2 is not done yet.
I also did the front neck line. I just need to do the zip and lace before I can do the back. I had some lace but it was too wide.
Almost done now.

Re: Morticia Addams - Addams Family WIP

Small update:

Some new lace came in and I really like the left option as it's so narrow.

I also started to sew the tattered 'snakes' in between the panels at the bottom. At the 2 back openings there will be 4 coming down and the rest will have 2.

Re: Morticia Addams - Addams Family WIP

Finished! Finally!

There are few flaws with the lining, but it doesn't show on the outside.

The zip went in without a problem and a matching pattern (as good as you can do that with this fabric?!).

For my first attempt on a dress (and without a pattern) I think I can be very pleased.

Now I just have to make another one, starting tomorrow which will be used in the musical I am in.

Re: Morticia Addams - Addams Family FINISHED

Thanks! :)

I started on the 2nd version of the dress. This time for the musical. The dress needs to open up at the end for the tango. There is an invisible zip to do so, and the inner skirt will be closed with snaps.

The waist stay will be on the inside (of course). There is no need for it to keep the dress in place, however the bottom without lining is already too heavy for the bodice seams to keep it up. Therefore I'll add the waist stay and little loops (attached to the waist stay) will come out of the seams to attach the bottom to once opened.

I made 2 sleeves, one like the first dress I made and one bell sleeve. We will go for the bell sleeve which I will line with spider web lace.

Test fitting was done yesterday so now I can start sewing away!

Please don't mind the mess...

Re: Morticia Addams - Addams Family FINISHED & started 2nd

My word, have I been busy... Friday night a couple of hours. Saturday from 10am-1am and Sunday from 10am-3pm and 30 min at night to take the pattern stitches of the shell out.
And still the dress isn't finished! AAAAH but I am nearly there now.

I sewed all pieces together, did 2 zips, overlocked all of the lining, put the waist stay in place and attached the buttons and loops to keep the dress up.
I also took out the basting stitches (takes so much time, but it's worth it).

I got the sleeves done. It's lined with spider web lace, they just need to be sewn on. I also still need to line the bottom panels, however I had to cut them to the right length with Morticia wearing the dress to make sure they are the right length. And I need to top stitch the neck line at the back and close the lining at the shoulder seems.

My dress form doesn't fit the dress very well

Re: Morticia Addams - Addams Family FINISHED & started 2nd

Done! Ok just about 1,5 sleeve of beading left to do what I'll do in the theatre and tonight. That was a bit last minute. I cut around the lace as its for a neckline so it's looked like just a cut off bit. I will also add some sequins and beads from the lace to make a nice transition between the lace and just the bugle beads.

I'm very happy with how it all turned out! Of course the brah won't show on our Morticia

Thank you!
Today was the first time in make up and lights and the dress looks so amazing in the lights! My heart made a little jump. I was a bit scared it might get a weird colour in the lights.
So happy!

Tonight the photographer will be in for pictures. But I took a few wing and backstage snaps yesterday :) Not the best quality, sorry!

The zip broke on Thursday so I had to replace it. It was a cheap one I had already so I've learned my lesson. Just buy good quality ones. It's works well now.

Got a very nice comment in a review as well. Extremely proud of that as it seems they don't comment on costumes a lot unless they are bad.

"The action was complemented with some wonderful costumes (I was extremely envious of Morticia’s dress!) "
