Mortal Kombat Costume question

So, my first guess was correct! :) I know a guy who probably still has some, eh.

We've also been thinking about the boots and shin armor. We believe that they used some vintage MX boots, and we are currently searching for the best matching. Most of the vintage style boots have shin guards built into them, and we've actually seen a few with the correct shaped shins on them, so it's only a matter of time until we find a good match.

They aren't MX boots... going from those pics on the first couple of pages.

We've been looking alot at the boots, and from what we've seen, it's not that far off. Even the concept art for the suit shows the character with MX style boots.

Like what I see so far! :thumbsup

Thanks! :)

We got a bit more done today. IrishFett got his armor in today, and he's already started painting it all. lol the set he got was in much better condition then mine, but I can't complain!

Anyways, I managed to sculpt out the "belt buckle" piece and mold it up tonight. We will start doing resin casts tomorrow. You can see the first fiberglass casting, but we are having second thoughts on using fiberglass lol

Here's my chest armor (in progress) I'm going to be stripping it down...again. I used krylon primer and it completly ruined the paintjob :angry It dosn't look like it now, but this paint gets very glossy

Do you mind posting some photos of the boots? Those aren't MX boots in the concept art.

Quick update today...We've done some resin castings yesterday of the belt boxes and buckle piece. We went out and got ourselves a black belt from an Army navy store which we feel will work great for it. As you can see, it's just a quick mock-up of the placement of everything. We are going to be making the last piece tomorrow, the strip or sliver piece that goes between the buckle and first belt box.

Also, a local friend, of whom we are helping construct her scout trooper armor, is also well experienced in sewing, and she is going to be constructing the taberds that hang from the front. We went and got all the material for that today, but I can't say when we'll have them in by.

The last few things is just gettting the armor painted, mine especially. Irishfett's armor is pretty much done, just a few touch ups, and then painting the silver areas and his is done, as you can see pictured.

That's it for now!

Wow, this project is turning into a major pain, more then anticipated. It has nothing to do with the actual construction, it's the freakin painting. We've NEVER had this much of an issue painting anything.

First off, all the black paint's we have keep reacting with the smoothcast 300 resin belt boxes, and is causing us to use un-orthodox techniques to finish the painting. Second, the armor. Myself, the krylon paints on too thin, and barely adheres, and I've just finally finished sanding my chest piece completly for a 3rd time, to try again. Irishfett's armor had a similar issue with his paints as well.

It's really the only thing holding us back from anything, and it's sooo frustrating

Un-orthodox....what the heck are we doing? Are we casting demons away or something:angel:lol. I kid, but yeah its a pain. It's coming though just taking so long waiting for the paint to dry before you can add more coats.

I'll probably start posting on here a bit more. I have to admit I am kind of bad at doing the whole progress thread thing, that's why there is Tuba:lol

Cheers

BTW:

Cool Thread. I remember Slimer7 had a great Sub Zero Costume.

I made a Raiden Costume some years ago, but never finshed it to the MK2 version I want to make. Its still the MK1 version...

Hey guys, this is my first post to this Mk thread. Just thought i would share my scorpion costume so far!

nice... personally I think scorpion and sub zero are the favorites for costumes.

If I ever make another MK Costume then the MK2 Kung Lao, I like the character and of course the hat... ;)
