Mortal Kombat Costume question

But the AXO armour of that period did not look like that... I am certain of it.

This was back in the mid-90s, right? To be honest, it looks more like stuff from this decade.

Try looking for Acerbis, as well. They had a similar style.

Yes, the game was released in 1995, but I imagine they made the costume in 94 sometime. I don't know of any resources that provide a listing of products released during that time.

If we can't find the exact product number, then I guess we'll go with the next closest look-alike, just short of making it ourselfs. Thanks for your help!

The armour just seems too modern to be from that period, eh. It is really strange... don't get me wrong, MX is always ahead of fashions trends, brands (remember, MX gave the world, among others, Fox Racing and Oakley), but I am the first to admit that the mid '90s were a bad time for MX gear. :lol As this site shows:

I was told that the costumes from the game were literally cardboard?

I can say it is not AXO (from that period), so I am guessing Thor or Sinisalo. Both had similar lines. I will have to dig out some old moto magazines.

well now that I can see the pic, I think it's more obvious that the Thor brand was used. The overall shape of the shoulder pads is part of it. The next two things that are pretty good signs, is the connection of the chest piece and the shoulder pads, they are attached in the same place and almost identical to the one used for the game. The last thing, is the side strap/buckle placement. Those features alone make me now certain that it's thor brand. Now, it's just a matter of finding the sub-name/model.

Thanks CTF for your help!

Maybe some things could have been? But from the video, they said it was hard plastic pieces, at least for this costume. I'll try to link the vid

No worries! I can talk about two things all day: movies and motocross. :cool

Let me do a little more digging. :)

It is "Shock" armour. MX brands never change their established stalwart pieces, they only update them. :)

Ah, true..Hmm..well, I don't know where to go from here, the only thing holding us back from getting this, is just finding which version it is I guess

It is just a matter of waiting for one to pop up on eBay, I guess.

The photo I posted [of the earlier armour] is from '92, maybe '93... I know they had a big redesign of their gear in '96 ('cos I bought heaps, that's why), so it is probably from that line.

Thor "Shock" Roost Deflector/Chest Protector, from the early '90s. Good luck! Maybe even hit up local MX clubs.

Weird, I thought I had replied, but it's not showing up, ah well.

Just wanted to say thanks a million for the info on the armor. It's been something I have been thinking about for a while, and I totally forgot about this thread. Now I am one step closer to having a life sized video game character in my house :lol

Cool looks the business, always loved Cyrax, Sektor and Smoke. Looking forward to seeing your finished costume.

THANKS LittleOleBountyHunter!! Yep that is it for sure! I actually just got finished talking to the Thor company and they said it is not theirs at all and this pic only proves it! GREAT find!
Cheers!

Yup, just did some searching on older chest protectors, saw it in a pic and botta big botta boom.

And since I sent Chris a link to one his size...I can tell you that I got that pic....from an ebay auction ;)

Yep found it! It is just the right size for me too....go figure:lol. Now to just figure out the arm armor.....this is why I love the costuming stuff! Always a challange
