Mooncrest Models 3rd & 7th Doctors Tardis Key Review

I know it's blurry because of being blown up, but this is why it looks brass to me. It doesn't seem like just lighting to me as the key is proper color and the chain continues the brass look all the way up.

Looks like steel to me, Terrasolo. You've got to remember that the key itself is resin and has an artificial metal tone to it. A brass chain would, if it were brand new, have a shinier, more yellow finish. Were it older, there would be visible tarnish, particularly where the links meet.

Ah yes, good points. Works for me actually as I have a chain handy that is a perfect match for silver.

EDIT: Staring at this pic more I see how it is actually silver. What's looking brass to me is actually just it looking metallic I guess. Lighting is very odd.

Yeah it's always tricky matching that sort of thing when the lighting is warm. BTW, I think you are right about the Pertwee chain. Looking at some 2mm chains I have I think 2mm rolo will work fine.

So I got my 2mm rolo chain yesterday. WAY too thin. It's tiny! Trying for a 4mm but fearing that might be small now as well.

Really? Huh, I wonder if they have some odd system of measurement for these XD Can you post a picture? I used a 2mm stainless steel snake chain as my point and it looks the right diameter.

I'll post a picture when I get home. I am wondering if the chain I got was incorrectly labeled, I mean the thing is tiny. After learning that one of the batteries I have is 4mm I am expecting this new chain to be huge now. We'll see. I'll post a pic with the key and the curb chain I have one it now. I don't know the size of the curb chain though as I've had it for years. Maybe I'll add in the Mooncrest chain for scale.

Straker...two things

1) Awesome review I know where I will be making a purchase soon
2) Why the Hell have I never gone to that site before???..they have some awesome stuff there. Wow.. Love the "pool liners"

Here you go, my rolo chain is in the center and was sold as a 2mm chain. So either is was incorrectly labeled or measured or they measure differently than what I am used to. The Mooncrest chain is on top and the curb chain I've had for ages is bottom.

Ok so my 4mm chain came in today so I figured I would post more pictures (Straker is I am taking over your thread please say so. Although i hope these come across as more helpful than anything else)

This is the 4mm stainless steel chain on the Mooncrest key next to the 2mm sterling silver chain.

and the real prop for comparison. I think the 4mm look pretty damn good to be honest. Though I do wonder if 3 or 3.5 mm would be better. But I'm happy with this one as is for now.

I agree that the 4mm is better than the 2mm, I also agree a 3 or 3.5mm might be the better option.

No no, it's fine because this has everything to do with the Mooncrest 3rd Doctor key.

I'm really shocked they called that a 2mm chain. That is nowhere near 2mm. That's 1. See, this is a problem I have when it comes to things like jewelry. Sometimes the system of measurement can be VERY off. What they're calling 4mm is more like the 2 mm chain and what they are calling 2mm is more like1. That's really annoying.

Still, that chain looks really good to me. Is there any way you can link to where you ordered it from?

Sure thing:
26 inch 4mm Stainless Steel Rolo Chain Necklace | eBay

It's an ebay auction and to be honest I always forget the rules on that but they have about 10 left. I figured the price was fair since I couldn't find anything is stores near me like it.

Whoops! Missed this. i went ahead and ordered some 4mm chain and you're right. They seem to make them smaller somehow XD I ordered a 3mm to try out in antiqued silver plate. $7 with free shipping. We'll see how well it matches up. I think the 4mm is closer but I'd like something a tad thinner.

I just picked up mooncrest 2 keys so what chains I'm I after then?

Weeeeeell, I ordered this: Antiqued Silver Plated Round Rolo Chain 3mm By The Ft | eBay I bought two feet of it. Here's a pic of what it looks like on the key:

As you can see it's not bad and the slightly aged look I think worked well with the pewter but they have shiny stuff too. I found this chain by the same seller Terrasolo linked us too and took a chance. I originally wasn't going to but the Terrasolo virus bit me and I went for it.

It didn't come with a clasp so you'll have to add one but all I did was cut one link and then soldered it closed after connecting it.

The chain on the McCoy key I found in a store with no info on it but a 2mm or 3mm steel or silver curb chain should do the trick.
