Model lighting

have just ordered a 30th anniversary Viper kit and i plan on getting another to do a small diorama, i want to light the kits but have never done so before and have no concept of wiring them up,

so my question is, what do people reckon to cheating slightly and using something like this

http://www.lights4fun.co.uk/Battery-Lights/LED-Battery-Lights/sssc1406/p97.aspx

it would involve having to remove some of the leds but do people think it would work?

I have lit some models in the past:angel That would be a great way to start out. That's also great for a kit that does not have all the blinky, strobing lights like a ST ship. I have thought about picking some of these up as well. Good luck on your project.

Everything that works is allowed, I would say.

But you have to replace the removed LED's with suitable resistors or the other LED's will burn out later.
Instead you can just hide the remaining LED's in your build, paint them black or so.

I used 3 sets of those for my Star Destroyer lights to illuminate the fiber optics. They worked perfectly and I simply masked the unused ones with foil tape which blocks out all the light perfectly.

Dave :)

ps if you don't like the sterile bluish looking LED lights, look for the warm version LED strands as those approximate incandescent lights which were used in the original films and TV shows for their props. It's a warm/yellowish white light instead of the blue tint.

cool, will order a set, trouble is i doubt there'd be enough room to stash the 6 unused ones, i'm contemplating snipping them off and then resoldering the wires as they are just run in series, just hope that the remaining 4 will run ok with the extra juice that will be put to them

and i looked at the kit on voodoo, and one that was linked from starship modeler, but i'm trying to keep costs down so want to try a cheap option
