Mjolnir capstone help (3D print q's)

Hey guys, I'm having no luck etching my capstone with a Dremel so I'm looking at 3D printing it. I started using Sketchup and I understand how to make the disc, but not the text. Can anyone help me with this or possibly model one so It can be printed on Shapeways? I'm new to modeling and printing and have done a bunch of research but I still don't fully get it.

This is what I'm going by. Thanks for any help!

It may be easier to have someone laser cut and etch this. I have access to a cutter and could do this in acrylic or wood, for example. I'd just need an .eps file of the drawing, or a reasonably high res .jpg I could convert. I'd also need dimensions and the depth of the etching.

MandoMan531 i am able to do it by cnc routing it in any normal material: pvc foam, plexiglas, wood... the only issue is that im in spain so it will take around 7 to 10 days to arrive.

Cheers,
Pablo.

The only image I have is the one in my original post. What am I looking at in price for this type of project? Like I said I only have the above picture and the dimensions I want.

What material are you using? I made mine out of styrene and etched it in with a linoblock cutter. A little practice on scrap let's you get nice lines.

No charge for me if I have the material lying around which mostly depends on the dimensions. Well, maybe $5 for shipping or whatever it turns out to be. Let me know and I'll have a look around the shop. The provided image has a lot of artifacts in it that will compromise the quality of the final product after it's converted to .eps. I tried to convert it already and it would need significant cleanup. However, it is easy to reproduce with straight lines since it is a simple design.

Let me know the dimensions of the piece you want. I'll get back to you on whether I have some scrap acrylic or wood in that size. If it's small enough I can ship it in a Flat Rate Envelope.

I was using acrylic. I don't have regular access to styrene, which would def work better I think. It didn't look bad, just not as good as I wanted.

That's awesome, very cool. I think the measurements I was looking at are 1/4" thick by 3" diameter.

I'll check but I'd be surprised if I didn't have that.

Any preferences on rune depth? Flat or pointed deeper in the middle like it was chiseled?

Does anybody know if this is the same text that is on Thor's chest pieces as well? I haven't been able to get a good shot of those but it looks similar.

I don't want the runes to be too shallow, something between 1/16 or 1/8? It could be flat, doesn't really matter there.

It's the same type of runes but not the same because the runes on the capstone mean "He who wields this hammer commands the lightning and the storm"

I could probably model it in blender then you could send it to shape ways to have it printed. I will try it tomorrow. and let you know.

when I made my Mjolnir I did do It by hand, I wont lie, it took a bit of work but I was pleased with the results, what I did was draw the runes on in pencil, then use a sharp blade to lightly score the main shapes, then I used a thicker blade to scrape out the shapes until I was happy with them149863_475579859128742_990395967_n.jpg

I haven't forgotten about this thread. I've made a vector file by tracing the given image. The runes don't quite follow a circle perfectly in that image. It's clear they were free handed as well since not all identical runes are actually identical. If you're okay with this I will proceed.

Right now I'm trying to get the corners chamfered correctly and soon I'll have the cut piece.

Hmm, how off are they? I don't want the circle to be too much off, but as long as it's not too bad I'm fine with it! Thanks for the update.

That really nice! I use a dremel and woodburner pen to etch mine on wood. It's some work, but not too bad if you aren't making that many. An automated process sure would be nice though. ;)

I'd really like to just make one but after a few tries I just don't want to waste any more material and time. My etching didn't look bad, it just wasn't up to the standards I wanted.

I almost have a blender file done. just need to tweek it alittle and i will let you know what it looks like it has turned out almost identical to the pic you posted. Ultron is right that pic must have been hand drawn the runes are not identical but i like it that way gives it a nice look to it. like oden drew it on there himself.
