Mini Model Madness - Any good?

Just browsing the web the other day and came across this site: http://www.MiniModelMadness.com/store/

I have a couple of things I'd like to buy from them sometime soon. Has anyone purchased from them before? Are they any good? Such as, are the kits of good quality and prices fair (like shipping)? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Mate, they can be a bit of a mixed bag. I had the Gunstar, Cylon Tanker and a few others, which were utter crap. However, some of the newer stuff, such as the Galileo update, AVP ship, Lewis and Clarke etc is very nice. There was also some allegations of recasting from this company. Service wise, they are good to deal with and postage rates seem fair, even all the way down here to Australia! Cheers, Chris

I guess I'll take my chances. I wanted to get the Zorg gunship and Fhloston Paradise liner from The Fifth Element, since I can't find 'em anywhere else (they're also kind of new-ish, according to their site). I sure don't want to support recasting, but I can't find those models anywhere else.

I'm in Australia, too. So if the shipping prices are good, may as well get them. Cheers for the help.

Ah, so you are, I didn't even look at your location! From memory, the Zorg Gunship is pretty good, I am not sure about Fhlosten. I think some of the guys over at Starship Modeller have these kits, might be worth while asking there. How are things in the West? Cheers, Chris

I'd say this is a pretty fair assessment. I've purchased three of their kits--the Icarus from Planet of the Apes (good for it's size), the Galileo (Star Trek TOS) accurization kit (excellent), and Serenity from Firefly/Serenity (garbage). The quality of the castings on all three kits was very good, though the resin he uses can be a bit brittle for thin parts. The problem is with some of his masters--the Serenity kit I purchased is highly inaccurate in almost every respect and, as Fistius mentioned, several of the kits listed on the site are allegedly recasts of other people's work (this has been mentioned repeatedly on forums such as Starship Modeler and The Clubhouse).

I believe the Zorg gunship was mastered by Alfred Wong. So you know the detail and accuracy will be top notch. I can't speak to the quality of the casting or resin used.

**Edit**

I found the master on Alfreds site.

That's the site that led me to Mini Model Madness. It's the first time I've seen so much detail put into the Zorg gunship (I loved it in the film, but never saw too much of it). That guy is extremely talented to sculpt a something that wasn't seen much.

Alfred Wong's work is consistently mind blowing. I've yet to see him create anything that wasn't dead-on in regards to proportion and detail.

Any idea what happened to Mini Model Madness? I was going to attempt to pick up one of these Zorg gunship kits, but it looks like it's gone off the grid.
