MillenniumFX Cyberman Replica Review

I received a large box today and upon removing all the protective packaging the first thought that went through my mind was 'God, look how NARROW it is'. For those of you who own that fan made replica or voice changer you will be amazed at just how much narrower the real helmet is. For those of you already familiar with collecting Stormtrooper helmets from Star Wars it's like the first time you hold up an FX next to a TE helmet.

MFX always posted that they didn't endorse wearing the helmet and well the bad news is that they've bonded both halves together to make absolute sure you wont. But to be honest I doubt many people could fit their big noggins into it in the first place. It's as claustrophobic in there as a C3PO helmet and that's before any protective padding has been added. They've also covered the eye holes with a black felt type material which is the only thing about the entire helmet that I find a little disappointing. I would have prefered some black mesh which would be easier to keep clean.

The height of the helmet and base comes to about 15" and the finish of the helmet is excellent. In fact It already looks to me just how you see it on screen and that's without the use of Zeebo polish which they say was added during production to give it a weathered look. So I think I'll just leave mine the way it is.

You get a signed COA from Neill and there is a written serial number inside the helmet along with a hologram to prove its authenticity. Apparently mine is No.2 so lucky me :) Included with the literature they also state that they're developing some postcards to accompany each prop which will be forwarded on when ready so looking forward to seeing that.

OVERALL: EXCELLENT :thumbsup

The lighting is not very good in my place at night so I'm afraid these pics will have to do for now.

I'll post some side by side comparisons of the MFX, Voice changer and fan replica on Saturday unless someone else beats me to it .

Sorry for the delays guys. I'm still waiting to prize my Voice changer back from my mates kids cold hands so the comparisons of all three will have to wait until next week.

So to wet your appetite for now I took this pic of the fan made replica I own next to the MFX.

Any photos I post can be used by all for whatever purpose you desire.

The Fan replica is very good and beautifully made but its obvious for all to see that the width is different and the chin isn't as subtle as the original. Still an astounding effort from just photographs and video stills.

MFX has got my money though :)

Well Cartman is an affectionate name I gave it because I don't know WHO the sculptor is ;)
But yes a noble effort.

What you can't really appreciate from the front view is how much sleeker and pointed the original is. I quickly took this pic to illustrate how the front of the face slopes back more on the original.

Eeeu, Ugly..................There's nothing like the real thing.

Looks like th reference for this copy was taken from a TV with a faulty widescreen setting...

I'm glad someone has finally put this comparison up as the guy running his own little business knocking these out has been claiming on e-bay that they are 'accurate replicas.'

I don't mind fans who do fan made replicas for fun or for their own use and pleasure, like the Ood you made Cyberman, but guys who knock off really poor copies and flog them as accurate to fans who are desperate to own one, that's just exploitation. He's worse than a re-caster.

For a while now I have had a marked preference for the cybermen of my youth (Revenge era), and although I just about have an Earthshock outfit squared away I really am gravitating towards this beautiful helmet.

Call me greedy though, what is the chance of a full suit reproduction occurring?

I can well understand your anger Neill and rest assured my Ood masks are only for Hyde Fundraising events which I think you know about anyway.

Yes the fact of the matter is the fan made replica is quite glaring different when put alongside the original and he should certainly stop selling any more copies, especially now that the company who created the originals are doing an extremely good job of supplying fans with the best possible copies.

Interesting. It's almost as if the fan sculptor was using reference screengrabs that were at the incorrect aspect ratio.

Sorry to appear to be prompting you but did you get a chance to photograph the CVC next to the MFX helmet? Looking forward to seeing... Its a curiosity thing you'll understand LOL

:D

I got my CVC back today so I'll be taking some outdoor pics of all three side by side this Saturday. I'll take some front on, side on and aerial shots if I can get the camera high enough. I'll also post some key measurments like the distance between the eyes and mouth etc.

If anyone has specific angles or details you want comparisons of then say so now.

Hey RKW, :D

First of all I'd just like to say thanks very much for going to all the trouble of doing this for us, it's most appreciated. The main things I'd like to see that you might not think of immediately are shots of the neck openings and the dimensions of them (front to back, side to side), and the actual diameters of the main sections of the handlebar tubes, thanks.

Roughneckone :)

Ok I don't have time to crop out the background so I'll leave that up to you guys. Just click on the thumbnails below to see the full size image and just in case you're wondering the MFX is in the middle ;)

I'll post the measurements tomorrow.
