Miley Cyrus at MTV Video Music Awards

And all this attention everyone is giving her is EXACTLY why she did it.She wins.Personally I don't see why everyone is so upset. There's way more important issues in the world apart from what Mylie Cyrus has done.

When is the last time we had a Miley Cyrus thread on these boards? Never you say... Her performance accomplished exactly what she and all of her people wanted it to -- she was the only thing people were talking about the next day.

This seems tame by today's standards, but Madonna shocked the hell out of people when she appeared in 84 on the same awards show -
Madonna - Like A Virgin - Live at MTV Awards 1984 - YouTube
and with that she started it all.

Her record sakes went through the roof the following week and she went from slightly well known to megastar. Unfortunatly that's the way it's worked ever since. Lady Ga Ga smeared blood all over herself, Britney, Christina and Madonna shared a kiss and Kanye West pulled the stunt on Taylor Swift -- this is how they become water cooler talk. Now, everyone is waiting for Miley next thing, or to see what she says -- who would have ever thought.

But when Madonna did it, it wasn't a pro forma thing. Nowadays it is. I mean, you see a "star" acting out at an awards show, and while we talk about it here, does anyone actually think that the degree of discussion will lead to actual success?

Take, for example, Lindsay Lohan. She's been talked about TONS in the media and among regular folks about her antics. She gets BOATLOADS of free publicity from this. Would anyone here say she's actually successful these days? Anyone? Bueller? Or how about Amanda Bynes or whatever her name is? The one who's a total lunatic trainwreck and showcases this fact to the world. Anyone think she's gonna be landing a lot of work?

That's something that, I think, has dramatically changed in modern culture: we sure do pay attention, but it really doesn't automatically translate into success anymore, particularly when you have so many people acting like idiots, and particularly when awards shows are now basically like watching a horror movie where you place bets on who's gonna die first. Except now it's who's gonna do something outrageous first.

Bottom line: if you can't back up the controversy with actual substance as an artist (something which Madonna, Kanye, and others have actually managed to do), it won't matter a ton in the end. So, I don't really see how she'll "win" in this case (side note: does Miley work with "the terrorists" now? Do they "win" or "lose" together?). She got some press and some controversy. It all happened during the summer doldrums. Except now we've got a potential war with Syria brewing, and the world continues to turn. So, Miley gets some press for two weeks until the media tires of her and moves on to the next meaningless shiny bauble, and what becomes of her? Not much, I'd wager. Unless she can back it up with music that people want to hear. She might get a minor "poll bounce", but it'll be short-lived if she doesn't have anything else going on for her.

What I wanna know is, what the heck does the "M" in "MTV" stand for nowadays

Uh, what is this from?? Was it part of the VMA presentation? I didn't actually watch the VMAs, just saw the posted clips

Someone took a pic of Alec getting something off his windshield (I think) and pasted a pic of MC from the VMAs in it.

a few days ago Alec Baldwin attacked a photographer (paparazzi) that was harassing him......they got into a altercation...

someone photoshopped miley into the picture where the paparazzi was at...

She's nothing more than an immature 20-year-old who is trying to break away from her squeaky-clean Hannah Montana image, and she thinks this is the way to do it. :rolleyes

There's LOTS of ways to do that. Look at Selena Gomez at the same thing. She had a sexier looking dress on than I've ever seen her wear, but she was classy. I think Miley did what she thinks is sexy, but was bizarre and trashy looking. And not even "OMG I'd be all over her!" trashy, just "That actually made my penis reverse direction inside my body and hide, shivering from horror..." trashy. :lol

Lets see what Miley started. So you film yourself Twerking, then you fall over on the coffee table like Matt Foley the motivational speaker, and then you set fire to the house and yourself...

Kids, be careful. twerking is a dangerous thing. :facepalm:lol:eek:lol

Jimmy Kimmel admits twerking video was a hoax

Jimmy Kimmel Admits 'Twerking FAIL' Video Was Hoax Set Up By His Show

Turns out the entire video was a hoax staged by Kimmel and his show. In the extended version of the clip, Kimmel walks through the door and extinguishes the fire.

Kimmel interviewed the woman, who in actuality is a stuntwoman named Daphne Avalon. "We didn't send it to any TV station, we didn't tweet it," Kimmel said. "We just put it on YouTube and let the magic happen."

Some speculated that the video was fake, but was not until now that Kimmel, notorious for his large and small scale pranks, admitted that he was behind it.
