Miley Cyrus at MTV Video Music Awards

If you run a Google Image search of Miley Cyrus tongue, you basically see that she pretty much ALWAYS has her tongue sticking out. Meanwhile, Gene Simmons is saying "Oh. How original."

Another pretty girl with limited talent doing the skank routine to get attention. Borrrrrriinnnnng....nice bod, not much appeal.

I find the major attention it's getting more offensive than the actual event.

And her father tried tweeting as if he were so supportive of her. Inside this is just killing him but he know he is under the microscope and the media will pounce on any sign of disappointment from him.

Worse was the reaction that her mother had. She was in the audience and was smiling like she was totally okay with it. It wasn't one of those fake smiles where you can see the anger and/or disappointment in her eyes, either. It was one of those authentic "I'm so proud of my child" smiles. Absolutely disgusting.

You will be receiving a bill in the mail from my employers for the cost of a new monitor.

Here's the thing that gets me. Other performers have done the "I'm so outrageous" thing before over the years.

I mean, none of what happened here is anything that Madonna didn't do in some respect back in the 90s. The thing is, even if she's not really your thing, you can't deny that Madonna has talent. Same with Lady Gaga, who channels both Madonna and Bowie. Outrageous, yes, but still musically talented even if not your thing from an aesthetic perspective.

Miley Cyrus, though, I don't get as being all THAT talented. And it's the mix of that lack of talent and the desperate desire to distance herself from the Disneyfied identity that makes all of this stuff....disingenuous. I think that's really the best word. It's an act. A put-on. And it's not backed up by any kind of obvious talent. Maybe she does have chops, but they aren't really showing right now. She's just gone from one manufactured personality (the Disney thing) to another, and it's all done to be outrageous to draw attention, because her raw musical ability just...isn't that impressive on its own. That, to me, is why this whole thing is just so....pathetic, really.

That video is truly beautiful.

The thing with Miley Cyrus is that she's not a bad singer if it's the right music genre. She has a decent country/bluegrass voice that doesn't translate well into pop music. She could probably carve out a solid country career, but for some reason she's turned to this strange "grown-up" persona that just screams of trying too hard.

Sadly, all this negative publicity is only feeding into her craving for more.
A few days after the show she tweeted comments from MTV about her performance that night:

"Miley was the one star in the room who truly understood what the MTV Video Music Awards are all about!"

Yet MTV wanted their rating on the show to be open to all ages as they call it "a family friendly awards show".
If this is the type of act they feel "is the epitome of what their show is about", then kids under at least 16 shouldn't watch it. I don't want my 12 year old niece who loved Hanna Montanna to see that and want to emulate it because she idolizes her.

She followed that tweet up with a new crop of racy photos in the locker room.

Prediction? 3....2....1..... Leak sex tape!

Do they even show music videos on there anymore? Seems like it's all "16 and Pregnant Big Brother." The only time I've seen a music video on there in the last ten years or so was when I was changing channels and saw an episode of Beavis and Butthead just as the two started watching a Skrillex video.

I never heard one song of her, till you pointed me to these videos. And I didn't watched the vid, just hear her voice. She has talent, no denying here, she should stay to what she can sings best.

I believe they show videos early, sometime between 8:00 am and maybe 10:00 am. VH1 shows their videos at the same time. But aside from that block, the rest of the day is filled with shows on both networks.

I imagine that during the VMAs Liam Hemsworth was sitting quietly in a corner somewhere with a bottle of vodka, texting his ex-girlfriends.

I recommend watching the videos if you get a chance. Her appearance a year ago when those songs were recorded is a complete 180 to how she looked at the VMA's. The whole thing feels very manufactured and I don't understand because the skill is there, it's just being used wrong.

The MTV "Awards", if you can even call them that, really aren't about reward or recognizing talent. Hell, as has been said, they don't even play videos anymore for crap sake. They're just like any other "award" show. It's about the industry picking winners and losers in a virtually talentless landscape and promoting whichever "musical" bowel movement of the week, month, or year happens to be "in" or that they decided should be "in". They all pretty much suck equally with few exceptions.

My girlfriend was watching it and I couldn't even get through the first 15 minutes. I had to go to another room. Not only are they talentless, but good lord, when they speak! Make it stop! Everyone from the MTV personalities to the performer. God almighty. And that Perry chick. Katie Perry? Shut the F- up! SERENITY NOW!

And I've exceeded my limit on how many times I can stand to hear someone say, as disingenuously as possible, "Oh my god. I'm so excited to be here. This is amazing." . Or...to hear a friggin' interviewer ask, "Oh, my god! Are you so excited? What was it like to perform just 10 seconds ago?". I'd give years off my life to see the Martians from Mars Attacks light these events up with their disintegrator guns. Wipe them out...all of them.
