thanks for the tip i emailed him :D how long does it normally take to get your piece back?

You can get gold leaf at a lot of craft stores in various shades, but it will look more like real gold than a bright mirror finish.

Vacuum metalizing is the cheapest "chrome" but it tends to look a little cheap - think cheap Asian toys, or plastic parts where the chrome sort of peels off when they break. Still good if you really want it bright though.

A number of places, including Smooth-On, now sell gold powders for doing cold casting with resin parts. That could be a good option as well.

(I may or may not have been looking into the exact same thing off and on for the past 9 months.)

There's a few different powders, but it really depends what you can find. My local shop just started sticking both a "burnished" gold and a nice bright one that'd work great for coins, but that's a recent addition.

Well..."metallic" isn't "mirror finish," but I can't think of any coins off-hand that are mirror finish.

(Could look kinda cool, though).

If what you really want is chrome... Nothing looks like chrome but chrome. Vacuum metalizing is the cheaper version of it so that's likely your best bet, unless you can settle for something different.

It won't work for these coins you have (too small and detailed) but for smoother, less complex shapes, you can find sign vinyl (like they use for advertising on windows and cars) in chromatic colors, including gold. Orocal is one of the two main brands. I can't remember the other off hand. Sign shops will sometimes sell you a roll, or scraps if they have it. And sometimes it's available online as well. The companies will send you catalogues with samples of everything for free. (I'll find a pic shortly).
