Messed up Observation from The Force Awakens

Yeah, it's sad given their likely history but I don't find Chewie shooting Ben to be that messed up given the circumstances. I would've been more surprised if he hadn't done anything.

I'd say that all bets would be off after he killed Han, at that point all the light would pretty much be gone and there would be no saving him from the dark side. It's just like with Vader: no matter if there had been a way to save them would anyone ever forgive them. They've become war criminals and short of a huge coverup they'd never be safe.

I agree. I just wish they had shown more wookiee rage. Several Stormtroopers should've been de-limbed by Chewie in that scene.

The Wook

Yep- just like at the Carbon freezing chamber when he was tossing them over the side. That would have been a great opportunity for more of that.

I really enjoyed the scene.. Messed up or not.

I don't think Chewie would ever shoot Ben.. But as mentioned above, I agree in that I feel like there was no more Ben. There was only Kylo Ren.. And Kylo Ren, son of Solo or not, needed to be destroyed.

What I find interesting is he is asking Vader to show him "again" the power of the Dark Side and if rumors are to be believe, there was supposed to be a Force Anakin/Vader by his side in this movie. If Vader had come right back from a moment of weakness to the Dark Side, there is no doubt in my mind Ben was too far to be saved.

I thought maybe Ben had a vision when he touched the Helmet the first time, just like the vision Rey had when she touched the lightsaber. Maybe the helmet called out to him, and showed him a glimpse of the Dark side.

Ren is so very unappealing in every way. Hey look at me I have a helmet and Darth Vader is my Grandpa wah wah wah.
Chewy could have sent him right out of the Star Wars Universe in a blink but he showed his best friend respect.

Well Ren could have used the force and ripped Chewie's hide right off. Then make a nice rug for in front of his fire place. You know that's the kind of rug that would really tie the room together. But he didn't...yet. So Chewie got some pay back on Ren for now.

Since the movie reused so many of the other movies concepts and ideas to a tee. I'm kinda shocked that Chewie didn't blow Ren's hand right off...well now that always happens in the 2nd movie of the trilogy. Hmm wonder if someone is only be able to count to 5 with out taken their shoes off in 8 now.

I hope they don't undo Anakin's redemption in Jedi. It would undermine Luke's attempt to try and save him. Plus render Vader's sacrifice moot.

I agree, JB, in that I too am not a Ren fan.

As for your comment on Chewie, I see it differently. I don't think Chewie fired just once on Ren out of respect to Han. I think he had a flashback to Han's last words to him when Han was lowered into the carbon freeze chamber: "You have to take care of the princess.". And with Han now dead, Chewie knew he had two jobs to do. One, blow the place up. And two, protect Rey.

Now, could he have fired off a few more shots and still done all that, yes, and I would've written it that way. Plus, as I stated earlier, I'd have had him rip a few arms out of Stormtroopers' sockets on his way out. That was a big missed opportunity.

You could say that Leia lost a Han(d) and Chewie is flying Solo for the time being.

If we go by the SW history, Han saved Chewie and he dedicated his entire remainder of his lifr to him, no matter what. The sole purpose of Chewie was to be by Han's side and do as he says. He knows there are others that need protection, so he shoots Kylo to protect those who need his help. Han's death was bigger to Chewie than it was to Kylo. Kylo asks for help, and he asks for a final push to the dark side. Chewie witnesses this and he too is sent over. He helped destory the base, just like the plan. He will do anything to avenge his partner and he will also do what Han thought was right, by using the Falcon and protecting the Solo/Skywalker family. Its what Han was doing in his final moments, and that is what Chewie will do for the remainer of his life, living out Han's last act by protecting the family.

Not "messed up" at all. If someone just killed my closest friend in the world, if it were within my power, I would end them and not give it a second thought. I don't care WHO they are. Especially when my friend is trying to calm a desperate situation and holding no weapons and obviously not looking to attack, and said killer murders an unarmed man for no obvious reason.
I think starting this thread is a bit "messed up". :facepalm
