Mens wigs for big heads?

Ok, So all jokes a side, I have a big head. around 23" around, give or take a little bit. (hey I'm a big guy, it's proportionate. :lol ) Well, I've got pretty long hair, and that's all wrong for some of the costumes I would like to do, so a wig just makes since, but I can't seem to find them in anywhere close to my size.

I need a Short, dark brown wig for a Mal costume from Firefly, and a long powdered wig for a Dr Who, Clockwork Man costume. to name a few.

Oh, and cheep would be very, very, nice too. :)

I feel your pain, brother...

One of my gigs is an an Austin Powers look-alike, and I NEVER was able to find a wig that looked good on a foam head and still laid proper on my big melon.

There ARE ways to try and fix an existing wig, though.

Frequently there are interconnecting bands that hold wigs in shape. sometimes you can surgically remove some of those bands which allows the wig to spread out more.

Sometimes you can soak a wig in hot water and stretch the hell out of it by pulling and pinning the wig to the foam wig head.

Also, if the wigs are cheap enough and you can afford two, you might be able to dissect one wig into sections and add sections from one to another to spread it out...like adding leaves to a table at Thanksgiving.

That's what I've got. Good luck!

Steve

p.s., I solved my Austin problem by buying one of the wigs made for Mike Myers (who ALSO has a huge head) to use in "Goldmember".

You probably aren't going to find anything good for terribly cheap. Good wigs cost money, and getting them customized costs more. You'll probably need to find a decent wig and find a wigshop to customize it to fit your head. They can be let out.

Also, in regard to having long hair... Sadly, your hair also lends to making your head even bigger. Also, since you have long hair you have to work a little harder to wear a wig. You have to pile all your hair on your head as neatly and lump free as possible to get it all under a wig. Here are some tutorials I found. This one is for pincurling your hair to get it neatly under a wig and give it a good anchor point for a wig.

At the bottom of that are further tutorials on how to put on a wigcap and then your wig.

Well, have you got any specific suggestions just for decent looking men's wigs at all, as in a vendor?

I was getting them from Lacey costume wig, it's not really expensive but I have to say the quality isn't really satisfactory (and don't get me started on their customer service)...
