McQuarrie concept Yoda

Hey all! So I just started on a new personal project the other day that I've been wanting to do for quite some time. I've always loved some of Ralph McQuarrie's early concept sketches of Yoda that he did for Empire Strikes Back. I've always want to do a figure of Yoda based on some of those designs. I had some down time in between some other projects late last week, so I started sculpting away on him. He still has a long way to go, but here what I have sculpted on him so far...



I still have another day or two to go on the head sculpt, then I'm going to move on to the hands and the feet.This is kinda the general pose I'm going for...



I'll post more pictures as I move forward on him!

Looks great so far! And the McQuarrie sketch looks scary so it also looks pretty darned accurate.

This is a cool idea. Makes you wonder how different Yoda's character might have been with this face. Would we have accepted him just the same?

Thanks guys! Yea he definitely had a different vibe in the original McQuarrie designs. I've often wondered what it would have been like if they had stuck to that look. It had almost more of a Dark Crystal tone to it.

I got to put in another full day or so on the head sculpt, so his forms are pretty much all there now. I'm moving on to detailing and then texturing next. My game plan is to run him in a few resin pieces, kinda like a large scale model kit. Here are some updated progress shots...
