Mauser Replicas

Hi all, I want to know what the Pros and the Cons are of this replica of the Mauser made by Denix. I would really love to see some photo comparisons with the real, and also read about the diferences.

Thank you very much guys!

Re: Denix Mauser

Pros - it's metal has a nice heft to it, metal is soft enough to make working easy, they're relatively cheap compared to the rarer MGC model guns or real Broomhandles. Many parts readily available that fit the Denix.

Cons - it's an inaccurate replica, has some dimensional issues compared to the real deal and MGC. Plastic grips that look and feel really bad.

Below - MGC Broomhandle replica, MR Luke LE

Kinda hard to tell from a bad pic, but the Denixes are bigger and clunkier than the MGC's, which are not 100% accurate Mauser replicas either. They were used in ESB and ROTJ and are screen-accurate though.

Re: Denix Mauser

Wow, that's everythign I've asked in just one post! Thank you very much for the reply. It's looks something between the MR and the MGC speaking about accuracy? I could CNC some wood grips to match the real ones?

I'm not a Han blaster purist so I think I could live with it :p

Thank you very much again!

Re: Denix Mauser

It´s not that bad as he describes, the differencies are more in the details than in the overall size/shape.

And several of the MR-variants are based on the Denix, not on the real deal. No idea why .... lazyness?

Re: Denix Mauser

"As bad as he says", Lichtbringer? I seem to have listed more pros than cons... :confused

The Denix is not an accurate replica of a Broomhandle Mauser. Fact. It does have redeeming qualities though, and is very suitable for blaster conversion. I have gone through a few through the years, and messing with them is fun! The MGC is a far nicer replica, albeit not 100% accurate to a real Mauser. MGC's were used on screen in ESB and ROTJ, which makes them very accurate bases for those blasters.

And yes, MR made some of their blasters using the Denix as base. Then they made static copies of the MGC for the Han and Luke ESB's as well as the ANH EE, I believe. While being more accurate, many fans and collectors were disappointed as the gun has no moving parts whatsoever. My MR Luke looks nice, but I don't really care to handle it. Seems a bit soulless, in a way.

You can buy real Mauser wood grips off Numrich Gun Parts or check eBay for a set. You'll want the 1896 version, not the 1930 or Bolo grips. In order to fit them on the Denix, you'll need to alter the Denix as well as the grips a bit.

That sounds as if they are way off in their dimensions, but they are not that far from a MGC (which was also used in ANH). It just looks somehow bulkier cause it is casted Zamak with smoother edges than the milled Zamak of the MGCs. Both are not correct to a real one.

And the grips are not really more bad than the MGCs plastic grips, those just have nicer screws - something that is irrelevant if changed to wood grips, as they come with the correct fasteners.

Most of the real differecies are in the details .... some easy visible if you know for what to look, some more on the functional side.

If the build itself is done well, the difference is hard to spot from a few steps away. Bad/wrong addons (inaccurate flashhider/scope/grill.....) are more distracting, imho.

The MGCs are having some advantages, but for most it is much easier to get a Denix and work on it. If you mess it up 60$ hurts not that much as 250$. :love

And what do you guys think about the Collector's Armoury? It's a few $ more than the Denix but I don't know about diferences between both.

They just resell Denix Mausers. One is the Denix standard with plastic grips, the other seems to be the Denix version with wood grips. I´ve never seen that version in real, but according to the pics they have the wrong screws in the grips, too.

Nonetheless the wood version might be worth a try, for the standard you should be able to find cheaper stores.

Yes, I live in Spain and Denix is a Spanish manufacturer, they sell them at 51€ (75$) and it's the cheaper I can find here in Spain so I don't need to worry about customs.

The wood grips must be an add by C'sA because Denix does not sell Mauser with wood grips

I've never heard of a wood version, I fitted my grips myself. I used Wakal's grip tutorial. I removed the plastic grips, cut out the metal center section of the Denix grip handle. Laid the grips on the frame, and traced the grips with a razor to reveal what parts of the frame needed to be removed. I usually start the removal process with a belt sander and finish it off with hand files. I often use a chunk of JB Weld putty sandwich between the grips to keep them from slipping around on the frame once I'm done. I also like to recess the Denix pins so you can't see them as well, remove the Denix logos and flush some of the pitting on the receiver with a rotary tool on mine.

Anyone ever bought one of these with the stock/holster? I've always been curious as to (A) whether it detaches, and (B) how sturdy the connector is.

I can't find a wood grips one, even in the Denix webpage no such edition exists, maybe C'sA made a special edition and THEY changed the grips?

For anyone who owns one of these, could you possibly give me some various measurements, ie. width at different points, overall height, etc. I'm trying to scratchbuild one for a costume addition and can only find O/A length and barrel length measurements online. And the only top views I found aren't full length, so I can't scale it . Thanks

Think it'd be hard to build part of the gun from wood (handle, magazine housing up to the top) then just add on the barrel and greeblies? U know just to have the wood handle, just a thought

Im thinking of getting the Collectors Armoury version, are the kits still available to turn it into ANH model?
