I know samsung made the ones in reloaded any I idea what was used in the first film that sprung open?

It was a Nokia 8110, but it doesn't spring open, that was rigged in the movie only.

The spring-loaded cell phones used in the film were Nokia 8110s (only available in Europe and in Australia). The spring loaded slider was added to give it more dramatic effect.

I actually had one of these and gave it away :facepalm because it was a brick and I didn't know that forums like this existed :unsure

I read an article that showed you how to change the insides from a compatible US model into the 8110 so that you could use it in the US.

T'interwebs is full of smart people.

Also, while those phones were the business back in the day... holy CRAP do they look primitive by today's standards.

just took a quick look around people are asking a lot of money for them :cry

I got one about a year after they sold out. There was a lot of them at that time. The one I ended up having was a prototype from Sprint so when I turned around and sold it, I made double what I paid for it.

It's where I got the money for my cars first set of wheels. I miss the phone, not the car.

update, just looked at ebay and those prices aren't that bad. This phone retailed for $500 and sold out the day it was released and was only really sold in Best Buys on the east coast. So the guy selling an unused one for $550 isn't bad at all. I paid $685 for mine, sold it for $1500 with the paper work from Sprint proving that it was a prototype.

If you aren't worried about it working out of the box, you can still pick up used ones on Ebay UK for a reasonable price
