Master Replicas Groups has filed for bankruptcy

Well, I am embarrassed and depressed to say I'm one of the dumb ones. For me, this news came right at the 2 year anniversary of my order. Has anyone been successful getting their money back from that long ago from their CC company? Obviously contacting MR for a refund is useless.
I just found out about the bankruptcy today. I ordered this back in May 2019. I immediately called Wells Fargo and they said I should be able to get a refund. I would call your credit card company as soon as possible. Wells Fargo did say there was a time limit but I was still within it. Best of luck.

Yeah I tried my CC company. It’s a Visa card. No dice. So I’m out $803 unless by some miracle MRG actually comes through with the product somehow. But I’m not holding my breath. This is the second time I’ve been scammed in 3 years. Guess I’m a glutton for punishment. [emoji3525] I’m totally off preorders from new companies forever.

Took a leap of faith and now I'm on the rocks. I'm out a total of US$909 because MRG charged me shipping upfront., Also, I foolishly paid by direct debit, so I doubt the bank will do anything about it. PayPal already has denied my claim. I've read about him for years of course, but this looked legitimate. Guess I was wrong. There's a lot I'd like to say, but this isn't the place to do so. An important life lesson here about trust and SD's issues with actually having any.

So I replied to Steve’s e-mail asking about refunding our money. This was his response:

I hear you and feel your pain. Truly. I resigned from the company that I STARTED to get away from my associates and what was going on. If that doesn't show my resolve, I will not try to convince anyone further.

*I* did not take the money. It went to overhead and product design and development. THREE YEARS of it. I really believe that they are going to get the project done. I have heard a lot of things indicating that they WILL ship the HALs eventually.

So there is hope. I took a big risk sending this out and I have already been threatened with a lawsuit by my partners for releasing this information on social media two weeks ago. They refuse to reply to me or send any viable updates to the customers, so I felt it was worth the risk to get the info out. I have already had TWO death-threats in response to this specific e-mail. Not everyone is taking this well...

We shall see what happens. I will do everything in my power to try to get everyone taken care of. I mean that.

Hang in there! This is not over!!!

Some resolve, right?

So if he’s out, and the company is still around, then we should be talking to them and not SD. So spam the $#!+ out of MRG for answers. Not SD?

Would it be possible to file a fraud claim or has the filing for bankruptcy put a stop to any such thing?

As an individual, he has the right to sell his own property and assets to fund his life. As for the company, I’m not sure because bankruptcy protects them from harm.

SD was the captain of a sinking ship, and he was the first person in the lifeboat, with all his fingers pointed at everyone else.

Oh, he ain’t innocent, not by a long shot. But for those who have the HAL preordered, he’s GONE and the company does still exist! So they MAY be some light at the end of the tunnel??? That’s why I say, spam them and not Steve as he won’t help at all if he’s been ousted.

I had never heard of Steve until a search for Master Replicas bankruptcy brought me to this group. Then, coincidentally, I received Steve's largely irrelevant email. Why was he so concerned about a company he reportedly quit back in May? Still, I did not place the blame wholly on one person or even the company as a whole. The minute COVID 19 hit China back in December, the HAL9000 project was doomed. Think of the money the company invested in that garage manufacturing plant for this one product. It probably never reopened. The money from the kickstarter was spent with nothing to show for it in the way of product. The other products were the most awful crap you could possibly imagine. I was expecting the bankruptcy and was unsurprised. Then to read about Steve's other failed projects, made me thing that the project was doomed from the get go.

I think the money from the kickstart was spent setting up production, only to have it evaporate when the plant in China closed.

Forgive me if this is well known but what exactly did the newly launched Master Replicas put up for sale? Last I knew they had the coming soon splash screen on their site. Wasn't aware that they actually started to try and sell anything?

They do have a full site.

You aren’t aware of the “thousands” of items they have shipped? Like their bizarre nasa items or... I’m sure other stuff?

Master Replicas used to make various prop and studio scale replicas, primarily from Star Wars, but they also did some other franchises likes Trek, MIB, and others. Just Google them and look at the images, and you’ll see a lot of the stuff they made.

The splash page was part of their relaunch after they got bought out by a toy company IIRC.

Thanks Sean. The talk here seemed to indicate that the newly relaunched MR ripped people off and I was curious exactly what they started to sell again?
