Master Cutlery FIRST BLOOD knife review

Wow! Your posts are always like little novels! I'm so pleased that you finally snagged the knife you wanted, that's great dude. :)

I recently purchased this knife form Ebay. It is a Master Cutley product, with 25th Anneversary logo. The knife looks good indeed. Its edge is good for piercing (good murder weapon :p). But I am disappointed with its side edge. Its not sharp, the blade is dull. Do you guys know if this knife can be used as a part time survival knife mostly for cutting small bushes, animal butchering etc? Which quality of still is used? is it 5160 steel?

Maybe they provided you a used knife. Mine is a brand new. It looks tough indeed the only problem is its not sharp from side which is not good for cutting

Master Cutlery only make display knives. The steel they use is soft and not heat treated like a real knife should be. It should only be used for display and not as a real knife. It's just a prop replica. The old United Cutlery versions were better made, but still not suitable for use.

The problem with Master Cutlery is they do not have the rights to the Lile and Hibben designs, just the Rambo name. So it is only that way in which they are licenced. The are not accurate to the original Lile or Hibben knives, and I'm sorry to say, not that well made.

If you use them, they will break or not hold an edge for more than two minutes. The steel is too soft to sharpen well anyway.

Saying that though, the Master Cutlery Rambo IV knife, although not very accurate, is made from good 01 tool steel and correctly heat treated, so it is useable as a parang/machete. The United Cutlery one is much more accurate though and much better made as it is licenced out to them by Gil Hibben himself.

No need to feel sorry. Can this knife be usef for hunting, animal butchering or Part-time survival purpose. Offcourse I won't abuse this knife for chopping wood or digging. They mention that its 440 steel

No, it is useless as a knife. It's just a display piece. 440 steel is not a good steel for a knife at all, in fact it is about as useful as aluminum. 440c is much better, but this knife isn't made from 440c unfortunately. On top of that, it isn't heat treated to make the steel harder and stronger, so is unable to take and maintain a sharp edge. So it is very soft and unsuitable for cutting in any way. Best leave it on display and get yourself another knife for outdoors and wilderness use.

Go to a custom maker. You can find a decent one that will make a knife to your own design needs and uses. Check out

You will find more information on those sites than you will on survivalist forums. Most people on survivalist forums like to sit at home and watch movies whilst polishing their kit, rather than getting out and enjoying the outdoors.

Atleast better than a regular kitche knife :p lol
I am looking for some kabar knives of that size

Well, I just had a closer screen accurate butt cap made for my Matton FB knife. Although my matton is nowhere near to close to the Lile 1-6 knives that Sly recieved for the movie..its close enough for me, until I upgrade. :)

Despite waking up with a cracking hangover from too many Leffe's last night, my day got off to a great start as the postie delivered my Savage sheath!

Here it is:

It fits like a glove - Harry really knocked it out of the park with this one, I love it.

Now I need to find a better compass and a whetstone...

Al

Awesome bro, it looks great! Here are mine. Both knives are Vintage 1989 from United Cutlery and both sheats were made by Harry Savage as well.

Looking good there bud!

I have a couple of Harrys sheaths too, and they are definitely well worth the money, which accompany my early United Cutlery FB and Mission knives. Now youve gotta make some displays for them. :)
