Mass Effect Weapons on the cheap

As i am building a Mass Effect Armor i was in need for some weaponry.
I´m not very skilled at working with wood and don´t have the tools for that either, so i decided to carve the guns out of styrofoam.

On Youtube i found some tutorials and thought i just give it a go.
My tools were only a sharp knife, Dremel, white glue (sealed the guns with it) and acrylic paint.

So here are the M8 Avenger Rifle and the Mattock made of styrofoam and some greeblies i found at the hardware store...light weight and cheap...

Hope you enjoy

verry nice... im thinking of making a star trek first contact phaser rifle with that method now... any tips?
:)

Well, thank you.

This is such an easy way to build lightweight weapons, there are only a few tips i can give you...

You need a good template, start with the thickest part of the gun (i chose styrofoam with the right thickness) and work your way down to the thinnest part.
Always use a sharp knife and try to cut a line in one step (try not to "saw" with the knife as it results in uneven edges).

I used fine sandpaper to smooth the surface.

Like i said, it´s very simple and easy.

Here´s another gun i´m working on at the moment, the Tempest submachinegun:

Thank you! I´m using insulation foam.

And the next gun is on it´s way...the Revenant:

At first i use a template:

Also very useful are Pepakura files for the righht angles etc:

Next step is to cut out the gun:

Then i draw the details on the gun:

Now it´s time to start shaping the handle and all the other stuff:

Next step will be sanding to smooth all the bumps.

Stay tuned...
