So the day after Memorial Day 2014, My brother-in-law asked me to improve on his Mass Effect Commander Shepard costume before he went to the San Japan convention on July 17th. All he had was a basic, Casual Attire, Shepard, consisting of Jeans, a grey shirt, a fake leather N7 jacket and a NERF Maverick painted black.
What he wanted was a set of armor, but not the normal N7 armor. He wanted the Hahne Kedar armor set. once I looked at some pictures to refresh my memory as to which set that was, I thought... sure I'll try.
At the time of his request the most I had ever done in the realm of cosplay design was, I made the claw for his Street Fighter Vega costume for last years San Japan convention. other than that... not really anything beyond Nerf gun painting.
I realized this was a bold undertaking... To try to complete a full set of armor (which I had never done) and to do it in 51 days. So I took to Youtube and the RPF to start learning. The following pictures are the very few Work in Progress pictures I took, and the final product, on him, taken yesterday (July 12, 2014 (5 days ahead of schedule)).
Armor:
Multi Colored EVA foam floor tiles
A few fender washers for detail
5 coats of Elmer's glue
Plasti-Dip - 5 cans
Krylon Fusion paints
Rustolem clear coat
Velcro
1" and 2" Nylon Strapping
1" and 2" Elastic
Gun:
Nerf Maverick (heavily modified and no longer functional)
EVA foam (as well as coatings listed above)
Bondo
The Suppressor is not exactly accurate, but it is a close approximation.
