Masquerade Mask - Based on Splicer Bird Mask

Hi guys, I just wanted to share my first completed Pepakura mask. This was done as a learning experience before moving on to bigger projects (Dredd Helm next).

My better half and I got tickets to a local charity Masquerade Ball. I decided that I wanted to build my own mask and having seen some amazing Splicer masks, I tracked down the pep files (with help from TheRPF members)

I didnt want the 'feathers' to go all around my head as shown in the pep, I wanted something a little more traditional, but with a 'sinister' twist. This was done by leaving the spiky 'feathers' just on one side of the mask (to break up its symmetry), and then using a bone like colour with a dirty crackle effect over the top.

Anyway, enough reading, here are my pics.

Sanding Sanding and... more Sanding.

Primer + Off White coats, then Crackle Varnish layer.

Watered down Brown Acrylic paint brushed over crackle then wiped off.

The amount of comments when i said i said it was home made all the work worth it.

Self Critique:
My Bondo/milluput sanding left a lot to be desired. Many pits and marks.... However they 'worked' with the required 'Bone' look I was after.
Crackle effect - OMG it's difficult to get it perfect. It's very much luck on the way it comes out. Some of the mask came out great... other parts the cracks were too big and wide for my taste.

I will try to update this post with Further details on what products I used once i get home.
