Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Given that both Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch are supposed to be in Avengers 2, I think we'll see mutants. However, I doubt they'll be specifically stated to be Magneto's kids in this one.

Funny thing is that they are also supposed to be in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but portrayed by different actors.

But that's my point, will they be mutants? Sure, they're supposed to be mutants but that doesn't that they won't change their origins to be an experiment/accident. I personally hope they don't change their origins but I can see them doing that since, like I've said before, we haven't been shown any confirmed mutants yet in the MCU.

More importantly, no Wolverine. If he was in this universe, every movie would be about him.

Wolverine is a great character and one of my personal favorites back from the cartoon and the comic books. Hugh Jackman has been great for making him main stream and even though in the theaters I didn't care for Origins I have seen it enough on FX that every time it's on I watch it.

That being said there is such a selection of great characters to choose from that the masses haven't even heard of I would hate to see them just make everything about Wolverine just to draw a more mainstream audience.

That sounds like the very thing that Fox is doing with "X-Men: Days of Future Past" with the whole "Wolverine goes back in time instead of Kitty Pryde", but that belongs in another thread.

From what I understand, Disney/Marvel own the right for EVERY MARVEL character for use in a TV show.... The rights for TV/Film/comics are all separate..... Sony and Fox's film right don't govern the TV series....

That being said... marvel could introduce any marvel character they wish into MAoS...... No idea if they have plans to or not.... But I wouldn't be surprised if they try to go outside of the box with some of the people here... Maybe Skye being one of them...

Suddenly I had a simultaneously horrific and hilarious thought involving an episode where they are all cartoon characters in a Looney Toons environment similar to that one episode of Farscape...

I hope they don't go with Skye being an Asgardian, with Sif cameo'ing, that'd be pretty lame. Wonder if they take the Inhuman or similar approach and connect Skye's origin with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

I can't remember where I read this. Probably on SHH, around the time the Quicksilver announcements were made.

From what I understand, for film purposes, Fox owns the term 'Mutant', as far as their Marvel properties go. A character that is a mutant, could 'technically' be used in a MCU film, but they can't be referenced as a mutant, possibly to the point of having their origins changed. It was mentioned in an interview with either Feige or Wheedon that said there were special circumstances as to why Quicksilver could be used in both universes.

you can not own the word mutant as much as you can not own the word window, door, coffee mug, air condition, etc.
there is no way anyone can prevent you from using it in a movie.

thats like saying saying: "he broke all the windows" will result in a lawsuit by microsoft.

I didn't mean they had copywritten the word for public use. The deal in place means that if any other studio were to make a Marvel movie, no character in said movie can be referred to as a mutant. For some reason, when the deal was in place for FOX to do the X-Films, that was part of it.

i cant imagine that being explicitly stated in the contracts, but we all dont know what they say anyway.

remember, the contract has to say: marvel is not allowed to use the term mutant in any of their comic based movies.

i rather think the terms were: marvel submits the rights to x-men to fox, and is not allowed to use any of the characters exclusive to this series in any of their movies until this contract expires or if FOX fails to hit the deadline for using the characters.

Okay, for the sake of argument let's assume Marvel does have the film rights to the term "mutant." They don't have the film rights to any X-Men character (save Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch) so why would they refer to "mutants" if they can't use any mutants people have heard of?

The thing is, if you don't intend to answer soon, you shouldn't be beating your audience over they head with it on a weekly basis. If you don't wanna answer Coulson's survival year 1, fine. I've got no problem. However, you shouldn't make reference to it in 20/22 of your first season shows. As much as the audiesnce should have patience, so too should the writers and producers and only drop hints/clues/refs every 3-4 weeks or something. Not 3-4 per show.

Seems they understand that with Skye. That or they just don't know where its' going so they leave it alone for a while til they figure out the next step.

Good writing can string the answers out by doing it in a series of steps that engrosses the viewer without baiting them multiple times a week. If they go that route, the complaining will stop. Plus, if you're not actually going to answer it, you flat out shouldn't promise answers in the previews for the coming weeks show. THAT will **** people off the most.

I agree. I really like the show, but I'm finding some of the storylines anti climactic.

I still see big potential, and very much hope it makes it more than one season. I hope the network is willing to be as patient as I am. The reward could be great!

see thats why i wrote it like i did. marvel isnt allowed to characters that are mainly x-men. as far as i understood they have rights to characters that are avengers too.
but then i dont understand why they cant use spiderman. probably the contract is set up differently.

anyway, they said it somewhere that they can use quicksilver and scarlet witch because they are avengers too. and thats why they are in the movie.

I'm sure that the contract with Sony for Marvel's top solo hero is radically different than the contract with Fox for some c-list twins who are only known for being on teams.

Any really, just about every name hero at Marvel has been an Avenger, so the contract has to be more complicated than just allowing Marvel to use anyone who's been on the team. The twins probably are available through a loophole.
