Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Still not hooked, but it's an ok show. The whole Punchy in video glasses situation made me cringe though, I mean come on, don't tell me the handler wouldnt have noticed to height difference, the way he moves and the hand colors in his peripheral vision ... That was a bit big for me !

Ok so... I'm assuming that Shield in this instance are not aware of the existence of the X-Men at all, or its simply that they don't exist in this version of the Marvel Universe, because of all people who would potentially know about telekinetic powers existing in mutants it would be Shield, right?

How much input does Whedon have in this? Im getting increasingly worried about Age of Ultron. Although I love Avengers. There are multiple parts of the film I see as risks that paid of... but risks non the less. So I can't just trust him based on one film at the side of this show and how ott silly it is....

IIRC due to Marvels hugely complicated movie licensing deals (Sony got Spiderman, Fox owns FF Xmen, paramount owns Avengers if I got them straight) so the movies are strictly and bizarrely demarcated.

But, I remember an interview some months back (maybe it was whedon?) which stated that any marvel TV series has the rights use to ALL Marvel characters -- FF, x-Men, Avengers, Spidey etc. Those complicated divvied-up deals don't apply to any TV series.

However they may have to use an alternate name or not name the hero specifically, or something else wonky like that to avoid antagonizing the OTHER companies franchise/lawyers/future movies. Very complicated.

Imagine seeing Spiderman swinging by but not identified, or meeting Peter Parker as a cameo taking pix, or shout outs to Osborn Enterprises or technical help from Dr Richards -- something offhand like that. I think the other companies lawyers would pitch a fit if anything more substantial happened.

Marvels media licenses are even more screwed up than Tolkien's were.

Ok, but they could've just made a subtle nod without having to say 'ah yeah we know about telepaths, Professor X bla bla bla' :)

Since Joss has stated he plans to weave the show around the movies it was probably just easier to keep the properties of X-men and Shield etc separate.

Also, I'm wondering if she used her special backscatter sight thing on Coulson or something to find out there's something different about him.

The way I took it was that she just told the other scientist dude that she'd see him naked if she used it, and that she was in fact doing that to the Agent robot guy (don't even know his name). So she was checking him out.

i think what the cyborg girl was saying is that he seemed like a different person. But lets say you don't see your best friend for ten years they would seem like a different person. You don't need to necessarily die during the BoNY to be a different person. Also who do we think is behind the eye? I vote AIM.

Tsk, tsk, stealing ideas from “Ghost in the Shell SAC 1” now. Section 9 and Major Kusanagi would be most upset. Only they called the surveillance devices “Interceptors” in those couple of episodes and perhaps they weren’t as Bionic. If Coulson turns out to be the Laughing Man I’ll be highly annoyed.
Its Skye who once again comes over faker than her tan. And the squeamish horrible shirt wearing scientwits. Other than that I almost liked the episode. It was rather dark ,with its Mission Impossible III brain killing eye bomb. Oh damn, another series that AOS reminds me of. But at least there is a very clear indication that there is anti Shield organization planning something interesting. Anyones guess?? Alien equation might mean “Skrulls”. They could easily become the “vampires/demons Buffy bad guys” the series badly needs to spice it up. The few minutes of men in "Red Masks" was interesting for a change and, for a few moments, I thought a hopeful hint that HYDRA as the enemy was returning .But then apparently not.
The “Whats wrong with him” comment and the quick “Never mind” dismissal is yet another indication NOBODY knows what’s really different or whats truly happened to Coulson.
Cyborg girl did not seem to pick up anything really physically different with him with her advanced eyetech even when they talked (and remember she can spot a tumor in the woman in the hotel ) and neither did Skye or the rest of the team when they were playing with the feeds
More importantly the MI6 agent (and his handler) didn’t “see” Coulson as any different to any other human being until he identified himself with his badge ie no immediate screaming that he was a Robot or Alien. So perhaps he’s a LMD connected not to the “dead body” but “live Coulson mind” . They used LMD’s enough in the comics. Definitely human I’d guess. But human plus what?
Still no cigar but maybe a cigarette this time.

My only beef with this weeks episode is the complete waste of some creepy cool bad guys in red masks! That was very doctor who, and very cool, and went totally nowhere

By beef was that they had the creepy guys at all. You're right, that is very Doctor Who, and as much as I love that show, silly nonsensical goofy weirdness like that always annoys me. I don't want to see any more of this!

But I did like the episode.

How was it "silly nonsensical goofy weirdness"? It was completely explained as a plot point, and was totally justified :confused

There are a million better ways to deliver diamonds than a dozen identically (and conspicuously) clad/masked guys marching through public squares and Metro stations. It's just so....twee.

^ this

I can suspend my disbelief enough to believe in tasseract-powered weapons and multispectral bionic eye implants but transporting diamonds that way doesn't make sense in any universe.

Great point about the possible return of Hydra, the diamond broker could be a closet fan of the Red Skull.

Did like the way the opening sequence was filmed so you didn't know who was the antagonist, was it the group or the girl, but the feeling of mystery was quickly lost.

In a crazy way having couriers in the red masks makes sense as Coulson said surveillance was easier, not just twitter and FB, but because the crowd was constantly watching and filming. Everyone would have ignored a bunch of clean cut caucasian guys in gray suits.
It is an application of "If you can't hide it paint it red" or in this case gather attention and conceal purpose paint it red.
