Does anyone know what the base gun to this is?

It looks familiar, but I'm stumped :(

Yep - Fifth Element, Mangalore pistol :)

I am planning to make it and I could make copies, but this isn't an interest thread, just an info. one :D

Cheers,

Charlie

Blad, while I don't know what the production used as a pistol base, I would consider using either a Glock 17 or a Steyr Special Purpose Pistol (SPP) as a reference.

Here's the SPP.

Hope this helps a little bit. Good luck with your project. I can't wait to see the results.

Thanks SG - I did think Glock, but fet the grip was too thick. Steyr? Interesting.... :)

There was a discussion on the guns of "The Fifth Element" a while back. Someone said that the Mangalore rifles were AK's, and the pistol was a Desert Eagle magnum. Judging from the scene where the Mangalore is holding the pistol to Ian Holm's head, it is a very big pistol.

I don't think it is a Desert Eagle. Three problems with that I can see based on the pictured shell.

1. there is not enough room in the back portion of the shell to accomodate the slide. The slide on a Desert Eagle goes WAY back past the grip. I found this image online to demonstrate.

Second :) the shell has a beveled top portion to the main body, and while the front of a deset eagle is beveled - or from the front triangular, the rear slide is a big fat hunk of metal in a square shape, not beveled.

I hope that made sense. :lol

Third, the grip profile is just too damn wide to fit in that shell.

Thanks Noeland :)

I suspected it may be a Vector CP-1 as in the Korbin Dallas gun, at least the shape of the rear of the grip lines up and the barrel, but the trigger doesn't. :(

It's definately Desert Eagle sized, just with a narrow grip as Noeland states.

At the moment the Steyr is looking a possibility

I've been reliably informed by 'they' that the Hero actually never fired and was based around a Beretta 92FS, like so many other Sci-Fi weapons.

So Noeland wins the prize for also guessing correctly first.

I've also been informed by 'they' that 'they' are in the middle of making this very gun.

Not wanting to step on anyones shoes and actually quite delighted that 'they' are making it I've decided I won't be. :)

Thanks for the comments & feedback guys, looks like when this comes out I won't be the only one queueing up to get one.
