looking good. Was thinking of doing the same but maybe using a 55 gallon drum instead for the added thickness but might be too heavy.

I was looking at that also but the ribs in it looked like an issue to flatten the only piece you would need a large bucket is the back plate . I got a large industrial cleaner bottle from the DPW is a lot thicker also.

Using a bucket to cut out the armor looks like a great idea to me. I've been interested in making a Mando suit and hadn't thought of that. I intend on purchasing the helmet, but for everything else, this bucket idea looks awesome.
Looking forward to your progress.

OK so I roughed out the flak vest and then taped my armor plates to it for sizing
the vest needs to be hemmed and the shoulder darts need to be added and I want to add the neck seal on vest also

Finished the trim and shoulders on vest, also have a Velcro closure on back. plus I got a better Idea of the plate placement Next is to figure out the neck seal

I used a hardhat and two 5 gallon buckets to make my Mando helmet. Worked great. PVC pipe works great for armor. You just heat it with a heat gun to flatten it. Then draw your patterns on, then reheat and shape to your body. The PVC has a nice thickness and feels like real armor. Also paint adheres great to the PVC. If you would like pics I can post some. Was going to cast a replica of a Fett helm i have access to but it is deformed from how it was stored so I got the WOF template from the Dented Helmet and this is the progress:
- an bunch of templates on cardboard

-the cardboard template lower together:

I was not happy with how it looked so ...

Attempt 2 with card stock:

Better curves

-with dome attached I glued 2 pieces of card stock together for all the templates to add strength:
