Mandalore the Indominable

Has anyone ever taken a stab at making a mask of Mandalore from the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comics? Here's a pic (he's the leader pictured prominently towards the bottom of the page)

I'm considering how best to approach this and wondering if anyone has any ideas, or if anyone has done this before?

I havent tried to make any of the ancient mandalorian masks or helmets before, but I almost wish they looked more interesting. The leader one almost reminds me of a Tiki mask with a mandalorian visor on it. I don't know what they were going for exactly. The other mandalorian pictured on this page is like the standard helmets seen in Knights Of The Old Republic and those have an interesting look but certain aspects just dont measure up to the classic star wars designs. Maybe with a few alterations with artistic license it could be something cool. I cant wait to see what you come up with.

I think his first appearance was this week, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that no one's done it before. ;)

He actually first appeared in an older TOTJK comic from the 90's but didn't look this detailed. I've seen a replica of just the face part of the helmet before but not the whole "royal guard" portion of it.

Yeah the design has been around for about 10 years, but the character has only just made a reappareance this week, which was what got me thinking about it. I agree that it's not the most interesting design, but I have nice replicas of Revan and Nihilus's masks hanging on my wall over a window with a third spot open for another KOTOR-era mask--Mandalore seems like it would be a good choice, especially since I don't want a whole helmet--just the face mask part. Where have you seen that done before Salvo?

What kind of materials would be best for this, do you guys think? I've never worked in fiberglass before so I'm thinking of more amateurish materials like some sort of modeling resin or something? I'm clueless.

It looks like some sort of bone so you could easily get away with wood. I prefer the mandalore from KOTOR 2 the video game myself. Gives a good link to the original trilogy.
