Man of Steel (Pre-release)

I saw it last night, the best movie I've seen in the theater in a LOOOOONNGG time! My biggest criticism was to much hand held camera, other than that I think its the best superhero movie since IM. IMO ;)

Yeah, I thought Captain America was a good origin story, but this topped it, IMO.

I will be quite surprised if there isn't an official replica from one of those guys. I'm waiting before purchasing a fan made replica.

Yeah, I'm disappointed that nothing has been announced. It would make sense to offer the one being given away in those contests since they're already being made. Perhaps DC Direct will put an edition up for sale once the contests are over? I'd get a fan-made version too, but I REALLY like the display case of the official contest ones... :cry

Put in my 2 cents at the post-release thread but figured I'd share my spoiler-free take here as well. I give it 3.5 out of 5. The editing with the flashback scenes were awful, and there were some parts with such lazy writing that I couldn't get past and just enjoy the movie. Action sequences saved this film though the last one was just too long. The Faora fight scene in Kansas was by far the highlight of the film for me. I thought Cavill played a good Supes, Costner was amazing, Crowe overstayed his welcome but still did a solid job, and Shannon was good as Zod. I was not impressed with Adams as Lois, she had a great opening dialogue and the rest went downhill from there, probably mostly because of the script. Bottomline, I think the film couldn't decide on which direction it wanted to take and went with 2 different directions simultaneously. Much like ASM, the film could've been better but I did find that they laid a solid foundation with which to make a much better sequel. Going forward with MoS 2 and JLA, I hope they figure out what the film should be, and execute towards that.

I get what your saying third3eye but to me this just the way I feel about the movie crowe was the best jor el since brando nobody's ever looked more like superman then henry cavill and he was a very good actor lois was ok I didn't really like her or dislike her she was just kinda there not really any true purpose but you know you can not have a superman movie without lois lane so there's that to michael shannon aka general zod was amazing he was beleivable you could actually understand why he was evil he had a strong motive for being evil and faora and all the other bad guys were really really cool to, costner was amazing best pa kent ever though his exit was different and kinda understandable showing how much he cares for his son I did not expect it, and the final battle I mean really you are gonna complain about how long it was its superman this is what we have been waiting for since well forever and your right the movie could have been different or better but there just gonna keep getting better and better this was the launching point for dc and wb and I have a feeling there are just gonna sky rocket from here there is finally hope for a justice league movie finally but overall this movie was a great starting point for dc movies.

Thanks... but, after reading a major spoiler here I had to stop reading the thread. Not that I've seen the movie - I've posted my brief review in the other thread.

But, needless to say... Man of Steel was worse than I expected. I can't believe it's made as much money as it has and that fanboys are eating it up as they are.

Either of the JJ Trek films are worlds better films than MOS. I'd rather sit through an hour of talking lens flares that sit through this abomination of a Superman film.

Everyone can say what they want about the film. I loved it, my nephew loved it and I plan to see it again real soon. I also plan to put it next to my Dark Knight trilogy when it hits video.

Damned, tried to book two tickets for saturday, it's already full for the day both 3D and 2D. Even the French version, but there is no way I'm ever going to see a movie in french in theatre. And so far the review in the Belgian medias are very positive.
It really seems the only people that really dislike it are the ones that can't let go of the Reeve's superman.

We don't get the film until the 27th in Australia. Seeing it on the 29th, so a bit over a week to go. Waiting..patiently...:sleep

Not true at all. I loved the Reeve Supes movies as a child but am no way attached to them and wasn't expecting much similarity with MoS, and still came out disappointed. My issues with MoS were how the story was told (more an editing problem, not content) and some parts weren't well thought out, pretty much storytelling basics.

definitely not true at all in my case. I'm no fan of those movies at all. But, they are considerably better than this bastardization of the character.

Alright, my bad guys, that's the impression I got from reading the Rotten Tomatoes critics, didn't read the reviews here to avoid being spoiled. Sorry ! But I'm glad to see you both seem to have valid complains about the movie, unlike the so called experts over at RT.

Everybody keeps talking about what they didn't like about the movie how about you tell us what you did like about for a change.

Finally managed to grab two seats, tonight is the night.
Despite all the negativity, I have good hopes for this movie, I have no love for Reeve's Superman, the only thing I'd like MOS to match is the Superman : The Animated Series, and it looks like it will from the trailers.
