Man of Steel (Pre-release)

I don't know if this is a good place to post it but Underarmour looks to have a movie tie in with their Alter Ego shirts. The new Superman version just appeared on the front page of their site. It has the same patterning and symbol of the new movie.

Laters,
Jeff

It would be funny if Spanx made a compression shirt that let the fat ooze out in all the right places to make it look like muscle ;)

Wait, you saw it again yesterday? It must not be that bad, crappy movies are rarely attended twice by the same person, and that's a...FACT ;)

No - that pic was grabbed from facebook - thought some here would like to attend a theater that's giving out the spiffy glasses rather than the dull ones.
I would never PAY to see this movie.

No spoilers - There were a lot of elements I liked, but also a lot to be disappointed about - mostly in the last act. Cavill did well. Crowe was a terrific Jor-El. Shannon's better with some room to breathe - the film as a whole and most scenes within themselves are compressed very tightly. Pa Kent was great casting but poor characterization. Wish they'd been able to follow through with Julia Ormond as Lara; Ayelet Zurer (?) didn't have her gravity.

In some versions of Superman, you can accept people not knowing that Clark and Superman are one and the same. Christopher Reeve made the characters so different physically and behaviorally that he just might get away with it; the old cartoons and serials existed in a stylized world where it was just one more ludicrous thing you were asked to accept coming in. This is not one of those versions. Any person or government who doesn't know exactly who Clark Kent is incompetent...

The review in the The Detroit Free Press seems to confirm a lot of fears about this movie.

Without the wit, winks, flirtation and old-fashioned sentiment of the “Truth, justice and the American way” take on the character, all Henry Cavill (“Immortals”) has to do is mix it up in a lot of “Transformers”-inspired brawls with armored-plated aliens and occasionally agonize over it all.

Yes, most of the far sillier “Transformers” movies were more fun.

From its production design — ugly, black, insectoid spaceships — to its instantly forgettable Hans Zimmer musical score, this movie goes out of its way to remove itself from the Christopher Reeve “Superman” movies. And it is the poorer for it.
...

Take away the antecedents (no Jimmy Olsen, boy photographer), strip the character’s Americanness (to make it easier to sell overseas) and it’s still a competent movie — state of the art explosions, implosions and what-not.

But take away the whimsy and the fun, and one has to wonder why Snyder, Goyer, Nolan and Warner Bros. bothered.

'Man of Steel'
Two out of four stars
Sigh.

All I can say is they are ALL idiots.

See it yourself and decide.

I will see it for myself and I will save my review and final opinion for when I see it for myself. That said, based on what I've seen and heard - I might just save this (apparent bastardization) Superman for a rental now. I love the character but ain't digging what I'm seeing.

However, while I don't agree with every review I read I do understand that they're professionals - yes, we have different tastes and the like and our own opinions - but to call them idiots is silly. The review makes some great points and seems to echo what's been shown in the trailers.

I'll be watching it tonight. If I hate it, I hate it. I don't anticipate that, though. Of course I'm going in not hating it, a luxury many people won't have.

I heard "Mr. Movie Phone" do a review on the radio today, he said the destruction of Metropolis was "offensive" as it was "obviously" trying to be a reminder of 9/11 (was the Avengers the same then?) he constantly refered to the villain as "Zorg", :lol he apparently didn't pay much attention to the film so his opinion mean nil to me. ;) Can't wait for Sunday :D!

I guess I'm 'Silly'

I rest my case ;)

Well, At this point I would have to say Donner has not been unseated from making the best Superman film.

This review nails it pretty solidly.

Ambush Bug's got a pocket full of Kryptonite for MAN OF STEEL in this lengthy SPOILER FILLED review! - Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

There are some great strengths to this movie, but the overall flaw of special effects over character development hurts this movie.

I know writers complain that it is extremely difficult to write a solid movie with a character that has no flaws, but I disagree. The ability to interact in a world full of flaws and maintain that un-flawed character opens up a world of possibilities. The writers need to create story lines that deal with Superman overcoming things which cannot be overcome with brute force. The Donner issue of Clark's fathers death is the ultimate example. These are the type of situations that push the character development how to deal with things you cannot change and the foundational strength of Clark dealing with such.

Donner nailed the issue of Superman character development in that moment. This film downgrades pa Kent's character in order to give an excuse for Clark to have to find himself.

The new movie was entertaining but lacked any connection by the audience to the characters as the development was so weak. It had to instead center on the special effects, short moments and battles to carry it through. Not a bad movie but still the studio writers just cannot seem to grasp that the strengths of Superman lies in his character and how he deals with difficult situations, not just feats of absolute power.

Here's my feeling. As it appears to me critics have mixed views if not a mild dislike for the film, however reviews from fans are pleasantly positive and seem to enjoy it. I consider the reviews or interpritations of viewers and fans a lot higher then any critic. Seems to be more accurate to my views anyway.

Well - as most know I hated the movie and felt it was all stuff I'd seen before ( nothing to do with it being an origin story). It has some of the same problems Star Trek did ( not as overt). Zod, Khan - most of the "meaningful" dialogue has been swiped from Donner's film or early episodes of Smallville. But - saying that, the movie probably won't fail, simply because the movie machine is full on behind this thing - they need this to be their family friendly franchise so they can get some of that Marvel Money. And families are what they'll get. I knew Trek would fail but this... hard to see

Trek is doing GREAT.

As for Superman, can't see it. Theaters are jam packed and then some...

We will wait a week i guess.
