Man of Steel (Pre-release)

I am surprised how many people got their underoos in a bunch because they arent using any John Williams music. Did Batman Begins get this much flack for not using Danny Elfman or Prince? Come on people. It's a complete new Superman, which is actually needed. Time to let the Reeves' films be on their own.

And people judging this movie off of a teaser trailer. Funny stuff. Dont see it. I love having an open seat next to me in the theater :)

For me it's not about not using the Original score for it, my issue is using LotR score for it..

What an utterly insurmountable task.

Comic hero movies are all the rage. Big bucks. A Superman movie just HAS to be made. How could you not? How could you let this time pass by and not put out a Superman movie?

But who is going to make it? Who would even think of trying to follow the genius of Richard Donner? Superman deserves a current entry into the comic hero move craze, but wow, what a hard act to follow!

And the score?! Who in their right mind would ever try to follow up what is arguably John Williams best work?!

This movie just has to be made. My hats off to the people with the balls to step up to the plate and take a swing. I hope they knock a home run! They have already sold me a ticket!

I'll never respect a movie that is made purely because the studio is about to lose the rights.

True that.. Some companies shouldn't have the rights in the first place.. Like that Anime company with rights for Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.. Seriously, how can they think that fans of the movies and Henson want to see Anime..

Is this the Jor-El trailer everyone is talking about?
If this was already posted, my bad

Much Better Quality MAN OF STEEL Comic-Con Footage Surfaces
Thanks for sharing that, it's a much better quality video of the comic con footage than what was available previously. Both the teaser trailers released officially has voice overs from Pa Kent and Jor-El. One of those is what many refer as the Jor-El trailer.

Man of Steel Comic Con footage

It runs about 2 mins 20 seconds. It's a much better quality video of the comic con footage than what was available previously. The music track is "Journey to the Line" from the film "The Thin Red Line", composed by Hans Zimmer.

I wish they had released this footage as part of the official teaser, would have gotten a much positive response including for the great music, which is less known and not distracting unlike the LOTR music track.

I'm not sure why some of you are having a hard time with Costner's dialog in the teaser with Pa Kent. Maybe you aren't fathers? Speaking for myself, I've got a 14yr old son, and we've been having quite a bit of the "you need to start deciding what kind of man you want to be" talk this summer. It resonates with me. I can understand Pa Kent's concern... of a boy becoming a man and being able to make life-changing (in Superman's case, world-changing) decisions and feeling helpless.

In real life, parents have a tremendous responsibility, but nothing compares to this story. How would you like to be the adopted father of a being who could alternatively destroy/save the world, and not knowing which path your son would choose? You hope and prayed that you've done your best in raising him to do the right thing, that your son will make the right choice...

And what about Clark? I think the "emo-angst" knock is thrown around a bit much these days. In the pieces that we've seen, he's not a pimply-faced teenager walking around wearing a black overcoat. He looks to be a man. I'm looking forward to seeing how they portray him coming to terms with the truth of his alien birth. How his whole life has been a lie (from a certain point of view) that his "parents" have told him. How he comes to grips with his powers and why he chooses to use them or not use them.

I think it is something that we've not seen explored before, and I for one am looking forward to it.

Well said rocketeer25 :thumbsup.

And to anyone who might groan on the idea of another origin, remember there hasn't been a Superman origin feature film since 1978 (Smallville doesn't count), that's 34 years.

I wasn't overly impressed with the trailer I saw in the previews before TDKR (however, I also wasn't prepared to make snap-haterific-judgements over it either), but ^THAT^ trailer gave me chills, in spite of it being a crappy phone-cam recording.

WOW. :thumbsup

I don't have a problem with the VO, I think it meshes better with the video than the Jor-El version does.

But, without the understanding that what you're seeing is Clark Kent on a journey of self-discovery, then it just seems a jumbled mess of random shots that have nothing to do with anything. It's only powerful if you know what's actually going on in those scenes. So with repeated viewings, it gets better, but the first time you're left feeling a little "wha...?"

I also agree that the LOTR music is extremely jarring, especially considering there's an actual LOTR film coming out this year.

The used "journey to the line" by Hanz Zimmer from the thin red line in the Comic Con version. I thought that was a much better choice and meshed well with the film style itself. All in all I can't wait to see more. I think with Nolan so deeply involved it will be great.

Re: the leaked comic-con trailer

I'm dying to know what is happening around the one-minute mark. So blurry, but I can clearly hear the audience gasp and that one guy yells 'WHAAAAAT'

Good god Jeyl, I've never seen someone get so worked up over the fact that a character has daddy issues and not mommy issues. It's superman, it's always been about his bloody fathers.

It's alright Scareb. I'm just teasing at this point.
