Man of Steel (Pre-release)

And I'll say it...the sequel to Superman Returns would have been a compelling film..Brainiac ends up taking over an older Jason and Superman has to sacrifice his son to destroy the last Brainiac...after defeating all the other Brainicacs (clones?).

That sounds a lot more interesting than this Snyder rushed remake.

The buzz is that it is indeed Zod, I guess we'll have to wait another 20 years before somebody has another go at Supes, hopefully he won't have the same fetish for the Donner Superman that has been ruining the franchise so far.

Who the hell is Henry Cavill ? Is he even worthy of knowing? I predict eminent failure of a new Superman movie with a different actor playing "Superman".I could care less about Lindsy Lohan. Her new career will be in the porn industry.

Kneel before Zod! Lay down on your backs before Zod! Now, using your lower abdominals raise your legs and hold on a 5 count before Zod! One before Zod! Two before Zod! Three before Zod! ...

Cavill's an actor who can be quickly dismissed as a pretty-boy...until you've seen him act. He's actually got some chops on him, and I found his portrayal of the Duke of Suffolk in The Tudors to be quite good. I thought he did well at portraying the arc of a man who starts off boisterous and carefree, and gradually grows weary of the life he's led as his conscience weighs on him (even if it does so in historically inaccurate ways...).

That said, Cavill is a guy who depends on good writing. If he's got crap writing, he'll just be a prettyboy.

I'm less concerned with his casting than I am with some of the other indications, such as selecting General Retread as the villain.

And while the Donner era was fun and all, I think we need to get away from it. Sadly, I just don't think Supes is cut out for good film, or at least Hollywood ain't cut out for making a good Supes film.

Cavill doesn't bug me. Don't really know him, but i'd give him a shot. It's just disappointing with all the options available to them they rehash a villian the people have already seen.

FIVE superman movies since 78 and 4 have Lex, 1 has Zod, and one had Richard Pryor. So, we come up with a 6th flick and they go to Zod - again.

As Snyder seems to be a studio "pleaser" (the new Lester) the next one may be an opportunity to capitalize on another comedian.

Zod was in 3 films if you consider the opneing of STM, Superman II and Superman II The Donner cut.

So sad.

I still wish they would go with the idea of showing Zod leading the insurgance on Krypton. That would be interesting to see. Make the film more about Zod vs Jor-El and then switch to earth in the 3rd act for Supes to deal with the consequences of his father.

Actually a story of Krypton WOULD be pretty awesome!

Well said! General Retread! HAHA!

Orrrrr....

They could go with a story about:

- Brainiac

- Eradicator or Cyborg Superman (although Marvel would probably sue over that...)

- Mongul

- Doomsday

- Darkseid (probably rights issues with Kirby's estate...)

- Ultraman (although that brings up the multiverse...)

Or any number of other super-powered villains.

Of course, they won't do any of these. They'll do what's familiar because what's familiar is MORE likely to sell, even if it is also more likely to bore.

Last weeks rumours were Metallo and I was 'ok' with that and relieved it wasn't a Zod rehash..but never overestimate the creativity of Hollywood I guess.

The Returns sequel was going to be Brainiac.

Didn't they do that story on Smalllville?

Did not know Zod would be the villain until today. But... Really?? Zod again? Do we have to? If I want to see Zod, I'll watch Superman II. Strange that Superman Returns was a partial remake of Superman the Movie with Luthor, and now this film is remaking SII with Zod. Does that mean the next one will feature a reboot of the Gus Gorman character and evil Superman from SIII? (Amy Adams will be too old and wrinkly in the next one too, and she'll be written out for a more youthful Lana Lang, ala Margot Kidder in SIII.)

Seriously, Hollywood is out of ideas. They could go anywhere with this, and instead play it safe, safe, safe.

Bah.

Superman III should have had Superman gathering Zod and crew, attempting to banish them once again to the phantom zone, only to open a porthole into the bazzaro world...

Don't know. Once Smallville is finished I'm going to Netflix it. I've never seen an episode.

Before you do that... consider that that might not be a bad thing. :lol

Of course, I rag on Smallville a lot (it's writing during the first season was great IMHO... later years not so much) but considering I also have watched it from the beginning, I'm not sure anyone should give my opinion any weight.

As I like to say, it's like a bad relationship that you can't break off because you keep hoping it'll change for the better. :p

For whatever it's worth though, I think the folks ragging on the new movie without having seen anything from it whatsoever are just responding more to past flops without considering it could be good. I mean, I liked Batman Begins okay but I got no clue from that movie or any Batman film that preceded it that we'd get the Dark Knight which was the best movie of that entire year and arguably one of the best superhero films ever made - right up there with Superman the Movie IMHO.

Ok, this is official - Superman Re-Booot stiiiiiinks!
