Man of Steel (Pre-release)

haha Just do it

I really don't care for the stories I'm hearing of a darker Superman film... We don't need that!

Superman's supposed to be the inspirational character not someone that the public cowers from.
I suppose they'll also have Superman kill someone in the film. Why not? Batman's done it in practically every live-action film since 1989!

It's basic violations like this and the stupid need to update the origins that I just don't care for... DC Comics doesn't care for the characters well as it is now!

As far as the new costume "S" logo is concerned, it sort of resembles the "S" worn by the Golden Age/Earth-2 Superman who used to exist until DC finally killed him off 7 years ago.

For those of you who like the idea of an older Superman, the Earth-2 Superman was DC's place-holder for the character who debuted in 1938. His shining moment as a character was the Crisis on Infinite Earths series in the mid-1980s, particularly issue #12.

Hans Zimmer Scoring ‘Man of Steel’

Just read this over on slashfilm.com

I'm excited to see what he comes up with.

*************************************************

Back in 2010, around the time of the Inception DVD release, a rumor spread that legendary composer Hans Zimmer had signed on to score Man of Steel, the Zack Snyder-directed, Christopher Nolan-produced Superman reboot for Warner Bros. At the time, Zimmer denied the talk, unequivocally declaring that he was not involved with the project and had never even met Snyder.

Things have apparently changed in the past year and a half. Zimmer is now officially set for Man of Steel, giving us one more reason to look forward to the newest iteration of the classic superhero. More details after the jump.

Variety broke the news earlier Zimmer’s hiring today. With some three decades of experience and nine Oscar nominations under his belt (and one win, for The Lion King), Zimmer is without a doubt one of the top composers working today, so this is great news indeed. It’ll be his fifth time working with Nolan. Their last team-up, Inception, earned Zimmer one of his Academy Award nominations.

Even so, Zimmer has some gigantic shoes to fill. John Williams composed the score for Richard Donner’s original Superman back in 1978, including the iconic theme which remains instantly recognizable today. And Zimmer himself is keenly aware of the inevitable comparisons. He actually cited Williams’ work as one of the reasons he was most definitely not interested in the job, back in 2010:

John Williams, the greatest living composer — full stop. And that happens to be one of his greatest themes. So no. And I’m not thinking of rewriting Beethoven’s ninth either. It just sounds like a thankless task, you know? So that’s unequivocally a no.

It’s not my intention to rag on Zimmer, as people change their minds all the time — it’s just funny looking back at that quote now. But in all seriousness, if anyone stands a chance of measuring up to the bar set by Williams, it’s Zimmer. In fact, in a separate conversation from around the same time, Zimmer revealed his thoughts on how one would go about following Williams’ score:

You are allowed to reinvent, but you have to try to be as good or at least as iconic and it has to resonate and it has to become a part of the zeitgeist. That’s the job. On ‘Gladiator’ I remember people always talking about ‘Spartacus’ and I kept telling them, ‘When you saw ‘Spartacus’ and how it affected it you, that’s how I want a modern audience to be affected by what we do now.’ So I think ultimately you’re supposed to reinvent.

Moreover, Zimmer’s hiring is great news in another, more subtle way. After the disappointment of last year’s Sucker Punch, fans were understandably worried about Snyder’s ability to handle one of the greatest fictional characters of all time. But the fact that Zimmer’s involved suggests that Nolan, who’s drawn gushing praise from superhero lovers for his work with the Batman movies, is exerting a fairly strong influence on Man of Steel. This will be Snyder’s first time not working with Tyler Bates, who’s composed the scores to all of Snyder’s films to date.

Re: Hans Zimmer Scoring ‘Man of Steel’

Zimmer is great but I don't know if he can really pull off the larger than life feel like Williams did back in the 70's. I think zimmer is amazing for batman, nice and moody, brillant stuff... but superman, not sure

No thank you, he totally deviated from the famous Batman theme from Elfman and I guess he will do the same for Superman, which I surely can say it WILL suck big time.

Zimmer creates nice atmosphere and tone in Nolan's movies, but I couldn't hum one of those scores if you paid me. I hope Superman gets a memorable signature theme in this go 'round! He's a different kind of character than Leo's mind security specialist or even Batman.

Either way, I'm excited for the movie. I agree with what someone said here about the first punch Supes dishes out, the audience will love it.

Man of Steel Teaser Running Time Revealed | Superhero Hype

Hoping that the teaser traielr for Man of Steel gets shown at Comic Con and then online at least by next week.

Zack Snyder on casting:

"We had about 500 guys initially. We did this massive auditioning madness. It got down to the usual suspects in a pretty quick order. Henry Cavill was actually the first one we physically tested on film. We actually tested him in the Christopher Reeve Superman suit. And that was a big deal. That’s a hard suit to pull off. Trust me. If you’re just standing there in that suit, it’s dodgy. It felt like we just bought it a costume shop. Plus, there’s no mask. I’ve been around a few superhero costumes, and it’s weird because when you’re in the Superman costume it’s just you from the neck up. And somebody just combed your hair. But Henry came out of the trailer when we were shooting a test and everybody thought Okay, that’s Superman. He was awesome and did a great job."

Hans Zimmer on the score:

"I don’t feel confident at all. I never feel confident. But, a little bit of fear has gone a long way to being inspiring in the past. John Williams is the master and I am not even going to try and go in that direction. I’ll try my best not to embarrass myself and my colleagues on the film. I’m definitely going to have a go! In a funny way, it’s exactly because Superman is such an opposite character to Batman that I am welcoming the opportunity to do the music."

NO RESPECT! I had it with Snyder - such a hack! :angry

Cripes! I don't want to know, what he's going to do with a theme…

Sorry Vivek buddy, I'm very very doubtful, but let's see if the trailer is out

The theme will probably have lyrics....

(to the "Spider-Man" song)

Superman,
Superman
flyin' around fast as he can.
In the sky
bird or plane?
It's a flyin' man
I must be insane!
Oh yeah,
here comes the Superman!
