Male/Female FROG troopers- stuck at the 3d model stage

Hey all,
So, I decided to take the plunge into pepakura without knowing anything about it, and have landed in a right old mess. The project's already taking decent headway (materials obtained, shoulder guards created, vinyl patterned, etc).

Trying to run 3DS is frying my computer, I can't wrap my head around Blender and everything is just badgered- however, in some magic stroke of luck I found a .nif file of a small FROG helmet that I could use as a base to make my Pep file.

While it's not the best it was the closest base I could find- knowing NOTHING about 3D modelling, I figured this was a decent place to start.

But now, I can't run .nif scripts to bring it over to Blender or 3DS Max, any attempt absolutely borks my computer.
Any idea what to do? So incredibly lost, very tempted to just try and find someone that actually knows this stuff.

Quick Google search ("blender import nif") brought me to this:

Projects - NifTools

The good news is Blender scripts are super easy to install, check the Blender wiki. Or really just Google for that too. Blender can natively export to OBJ which Pepakura can import.

Good luck.

Thanks! Sadly, the last installation of all of these failed- I'll try again with a virgin copy of Blender and see if it works, as I downloaded all from different places last time on the advice of some Youtube video

Failed how exactly?

You'll probably get better help if you post on a Blender forum if you haven't done so already.

Blender doesn't recognize Python scripts but 'continues happily', according to the prompt.
May just.. though, I'm two steps away from simply either commissioning the helmet, or attempting to pep it freehand.
