Hey gang,
So I'm trying to get excited about the new Wolverine movie coming out this week and I thought a good step would be to take a quick stab at making up some claws.
I began by looking at as many pics of the movie claws I could find to get a sense of their design. I also got some help from NoHumorMan with a nice profile shot of some claws he had to help confirm and improve what I had in my own plans.
I knew making metal claws by hand in less than a week was not an option, so I had some sheet styrene lying around which I laminated to get the thickness I wanted and set about cutting out the shape of the claw with my Dremel. Once I had the profile blocked out, I took some files to it to get the sharped edges and contours worked in.
I gave it a shot of primer to see what needed the most work and then laid on a little spot filler. A little more filing and tweaking and I was left with a claw that I'm going to call good enough for this project.
I did a little test fitting on my hand and it seems to work OK.
So I'll give it another spray of primer and then figure out how to mold this thing up. Then I'll need to cast up a full set of six and sort out the handle parts. These aren't going to be perfect, but they should do the trick for such a short time frame, plus it's a fun little project. I'll see about updating here with shots of the mold and casts and such as things get done.
Later!
