Hey guys,I'm a new member here :D
So I'm a big fan of Iron Man.And the most thing that I like is the arc reactor and the repulsor thing. So today I decided to make Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop.
I'll post my progress here so that maybe you guys could guide me through it ^_^

Ok first of all I got my inpiration from these threads :

http://www.therpf.com/f9/my-iron-man-mark-iv-arc-reactor-85748/
http://www.therpf.com/f24/my-ironman-mark-6-foam-build-update-127360/index2.html

Thanks to Demolition for the arc reactor template :D
(get it in the second link)

Ok here is the pics of things that I had for now :

Here is the rough looks of my arc reactor.Of course the LED will be more than one.LOL

I will cut out the white area of the template and leave the black details.
Ok so here is my progress for now.I'm going to buy some LEDs and other stuff.
So give me your feedback guys :love

note : sorry if you can't understand my english.

Here is some pics for the rough look :

20120706_194429_zps1837a89b.jpg

I only use 1 LED and it's so bright.And I'm going to use maybe 3 LEDs :D

This is in the dark.Cool right? >.<

I'm going to make the details soon(cutting the details, painting etc...)

Very nice! i'm gonna follow this, since i'm also working on an ironman build! keep it up!

Re: Making Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop

So ok guys I'm sorry the progress is a little bit slow.Because I'm busy with my school and I not even get a change to go to kraft shop to buy things.

Ok here is a little update this evening I finally found what I want to use as the board and the back of the arc reactor.
I used the polystyrene and cut it into a round and same size as the plastic cap.and I manage to embed the led in it.then I assembled it with the cap.
Looks pretty cool.
But the polystyrene I use is the one that used in electronics part packaging(tv etc..).So it is a little bit tick and not looking so nice.
I'm going to buy a thinner polystyrene.

Here is some pics :

20120709_000335_zpsf9f2c346.jpg

I only embed 1 LED for testing. But the result amazed me.The light leakage has been solve. :D

20120709_000346_zpsc77db58a.jpg

This is what I mean.It is a little bit untidy and thick.

20120709_000404_zpsa3ce0d76.jpg

In the dark :thumbsup

So well as I mention before the progress Is a little bit slow.I don't have much spare times.hmmm...And if you guys notice the decoration/details is not done yet.Still a piece of paper with patern on it.arghh got no time to buy materials (cardstock, paint, better kraft knife etc...)

Ok guys thanks for reading.Wait for the next update :love

Re: Making Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop

Ok guys today I got some spare times so I was surfing the internet. So I found this Stark Industries card.
You guys can see it in this thread :
http://www.therpf.com/f9/my-iron-man-mark-iv-arc-reactor-85748/

So i figure it out maybe I can make it!
So here is my inpiration :
Stark%20International%20FRONT.jpg

So after playing around with photoshop I finally finished it.here is the result :

This is the full opaque version with frame. You can print it out and laminate it.

FRONT

BACK

So here is the transparent one.I make it to look almost like the real one.If you have a laser jet printer you can print it on transparent paper.

BACK

So you'll need to resize it a bit before print.I suggest you to put it in microsoft words. But here is mine.I have resize it and print it out.Perfect!

Ok thats it for now.Sorry for no new update for the arc reactor :(

Re: Making Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop

ok guys today I managed to bought things that I need and finally finished the details/deco!
The only thing left to do with the details is to paint it.I'm thinking to paint the outer ring-triangle silver and the inside detail black.
And if you can see in the pics below the white thing, that is the polystyrene.I'm going to paint that silver. So will it match? :confused

Pics :

20120710_202729_zpse6ccce39.jpg

This is all the parts.I only put 1 LED in this test.I'm going to add more LED soon.

20120710_201732_zps566a77f6.jpg

You can't really see the "3D Effect" of the details in picture.Maybe it will become more visible after I paint it.

Light ON

Ok guys till the next update :)

Re: Making Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop

Are you planning to wear this over or under a shirt?

Re: Making Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop

hmm maybe not.just to display it.I don't know where I can go and wear this thing.least I can do is wear it at home and take a photo.hahaha...
Why did you ask that?

Re: Making Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop

I'm building one as part of a costume, just curious how you were planning to strap it. I'm probably going to use something akin to athletic bandaging and try to find a way to secure it, but i'm always looking at how other people do it to see if there's a better way.

Re: Making Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop

Building one for a customer myself. Thanks for the great info!
If you are talking to me, I'm glad to help you.thanks for reading my thread :)

Owh yeah I also have the same problem.I found 2 interesting solution.
1. Add a string to make it like necklace. So that you can wear it.
2. Make a holder.Put it under your shirt and put the arc reactor over your shirt.Which will make the holder hold the arc reactor.
But if you want to use it in your custome, I saw other people put it in the costume. But I don't know how coz I never make the costume.haha

Re: Making Iron Man Mark VI Arc Reactor Prop

Hey guys! sorry for no long update.I'm quite buzy huhu :cry
Ok so couple of day ago I manage to make progress on my arc reactor.so here is the pics :

20120721_152422_zpsd6c62401.jpg

So here is the styrofoam/polystyrene that I use to make the base for the LEDs.I wrapped it with aluminium foil to give it the shiny, metal effect.

20120721_152406_zpsc5851e6e.jpg

Snap it with flash. This is the look that I'm expected :love

20120721_162647_zpsf6b625e9.jpg

Arrange the wiring before soldering.I'm not good at wiring.haha.Now let go to soldering!

20120721_165159_zpsd08336c7.jpg

Soldering DONE!If you notice my soldering and wiring is a mess.hehe :facepalm

20120721_165839_zpseb4d234c.jpg

Finally the patern/detail is painted.

20120721_165851_zpsfd0a4e7e.jpg

This goes inside the plastic cap.I use the card paper.

20120721_165855_zps1821b829.jpg

This will goes on the top of the plastic cap.I use slightly thicker card paper.

20120721_181933_zpsb80ba310.jpg

lit up the light without the inside patern.

20120721_181948_zps32dce4b8.jpg

20120721_185213_zpse62984ea.jpg

Assembled all the patern together. If you can see I only diffused the middle light.I don't know if I should diffused all the light :unsure

20120721_185220_zps36bb2aad.jpg

20120721_185825_zps310448ad.jpg

In the dark :love

So guys this project is almost done.I'm thinking to use button battery and add a switch. So see you guys in the next update :behave
Thanks for reading!
