Making clay dishes at home?

I'd like to make some unglazed clay bowles and cups that can be used for food and drink that I can make at home without a kiln. Is that possible?

Unfortunately the short answer is no. Basically the only kind of unglazed earthenware that is food safe is terra cotta. Even kiln fired clays need to have the areas that touch the food be glazed for true food safeness because of the porous quality of the clay.
