Make a custom sci fi grenade challenge!

Ok.

I was originally going to do this as a WTB thread in the JY, but I realized that it has been WAY too long since we had a competition of any sort on the board. At least one I can remember off the top of my head.

The idea behind this is simple. Make a sci-fi grenade out of hardware components. Be as fancy, or as simplistic as you want.

I am putting together a display for him as a house warming gift (suckered another one into the hobby! HAH!) and part of said house warming gift is a "sci fi" weapons display. Mostly going to be repaints of nerf guns, but some other stuff will end up there.

Now, I can make a grenade or two myself, but where would the fun be in that?

So... the rules of the game.
1: has to be hand grenade like. not looking for a suitcase nuke or anything. It can, however, be a bioweapon (hint!).
2: has to be at LEAST 50% hardware. if you have spare parts from other resin kits or just wanna scratch build some stuff, awesome. I don't want to see fully custom machined grenades on the contest though. Not everyone has access to a CNC or a lathe. (plus, check the prize out. not exactly winning the lotto there champ.)
3: has to have a switch, or a button for it to click or be pushed. He just wants SOMETHING on it to be interactive. clicks, lights, things to push/pull, something to fiddle with.
4: HAVE FUN WITH IT.
5: Bonus cool points (may not enhance your chances of winning) if you post a tutorial of how you did it. The world needs more tutorials.

Prizes -
1: 25$ (to buy said hardware grenade from winner)
2: Random piece of K rock from my collection, or 15$ paypal.

Both my friend and I will be judging, but feel free to post up your vote on any that show up. He is really looking for something that clicks and lights up, so if you can wire a basic switch up, you have a chance! If you can glue a button or a switch to PVC, you still have a chance!

If this gets some responses, and a mod wants to help judge, feel free to post up :)

Get creative guys!

Maybe I am missing the info...but the winner sends off the winning item to your friend?

OK, I know that this one doesn't qualify because it's not made from "hardware" and it doesn't have any fancy flashing lights. Well... at least no light until you PICK IT UP. :lol:lol

Here's my homemade Light Grenade.

OK, I've sent it to my friend for cutting the thing. But here is a process or rather, my design notes so far.....

Nice grenade and a great sign making link too off of your page.

Dear Franz,

Well, truth to be told, for the sake of this contest, I might as well. I just don't want to count the cost (as they costs three times more than USD25). Its just that the pepper mill broke at the "right" time when I saw the thread. :)

I'll only know if it works once my friend sends it back to me from cutting, hopefully by this weekend. We're both worried as the pepper mill's plastic is quite brittle. But if doesn't work out, I'll try to put the electronics into a stripboard (prototype circuit board ) and sends it off to anyone who wants it. They just have to pay for the postage.:love

Just as a quicky note- I absolutely love the talent and wealth of knowledge here!

I go looking for ideas and find a "drastically cool" generator for fixctional warning labels- I had to laugh [and then immediately create a fission grenade label!]

Yep. That's the idea. He paypals you the 25$, and he gets something nifty for his shelf.

I have green rocks to spare, so second places gets either a nifty chunk of kent repellent or 15$ bucks in paypal.

Helps keep the contest fun when you win something ;)

Got mine done! Keep in mind i just rifled through some junk and some toys and such and threw this together real fast. It has a motion sensitive led that strobes on the top. (tore it out of this little ball i got from the arcade) Wasnt too hard and it kept me busy for a few hours. hope you like it. (Pics are really bad qualitly but my camera is acting funny. I might try to get some better pics up later)

It looks pretty cool!

I like the "weathered" look it has to it. Hell of a speed record getting it done that fast too!

I am still puttering along on mine. Slowly but surely it's coming together. A little to slowly , but 100% surely!
