Hiya gang!!

Been a while!

Been working and slaving, and haven't had much time here, but I've been following stuff on FB and such, and am happy to be back on!!

This year marks the 25th anniversary of "Major League" and I've been a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan. I love this movie, and it is one of my 'start the season' films that goes on the tv along with many others.

Most of my friends are huge Tribe fans, and I always get asked to create Jobu around this time of year. This past week, Mike Oz, a sports writer on Yahoo, tracked down the Jobu prop and found him on a guys piano!! I immediately got the fires lit, because he got two excellent photos of Jobu, with plenty of stuff around him for proper sizing. So away I went!!
Using heatable and reusable plastic (U-Mold from Radio Shack) I created a light but strong skeleton and started laying on clay.

I really wanted to use air drying terracotta clay for accuracy sake, but you just cant beat the control of WED clay.

The fun challenge has been to match up all the crazy quick sculpting mistakes, and I've chosen to keep him pretty rough. Not carelessly rough, but enough to make him look hand hewn. I also thought it was cool to see that he has more of a superhero pose than straight on and borring.

Here's a link to the article, very fun, cool backround info:

Here he is in his current home (Ow!! Broken legs!!)

And my 3/4 done sculpt, getting his faux animal fur wig fitted!! Still lots of finish work to do!

Can't wait to cast him this weekend!! I just may do a run too!!

GO TRIBE!!

Glad you guys like him!! I've been picking away at the sculpt for a week, adding and subtracting, and am pretty happy with it. I've also started stringing the necklaces, so last night during GOT and such I separated out about 1000 tiny beeds. Wheew!

I'm making about 5 of these for friends and local ball teams, so a run is a very good possibility!! Stay tuned!
:)

Well, had to move/add to his face a bit, but over all, I'm really happy with his 'look'. At one point his face resembled Sloth more than it did Jobu!! Wish I'd gotten a pic . . .

Didn't mean to tease! Just happy to have him in silicone!!!

I'll finish the other jacket side tonight into tomorrow, and cast Monday night.

If I get a successful cast, I'll be starting an interest thread for him then!! Looks like he'll be $130.00 shipped. I'm even including a cigar :)

I've GOT to get pics of the 6 feet of necklace I've hand beaded!!

Cool!! He's nearly outta the molds! I've spent ALOT of time making his beaded necklaces. Each necklace has 441 beads on it, and I've made 10 . . .soooo, yea. I'm going bead blind . . .

I'll get pics up tonight!

Here ya go. A couple of day old, late night crappy cell phone pics. Here's the first test for the necklace. I've matched the correct beads, but the first test was a little short, so the new ones are about 3 more inches long.

The big pic is of finished necklaces, and the beads that are separated, and some of the beads yet to be separated. I have a touch of carpal tunnel from doing them, but no pain no gain. You can see Jobu's not quite out of the mold yet, he just needs a touch more PlastiPaste jacket work, and then "pop" he'll be out and the sculpt will be peeled and crushed up and onto its next life. More to come, and I'll be getting the interest thread together shortly!! Glad everyone's enjoying it!!
