Mad Max Interceptor

Does anyone know if there is an affordable model kit of this?
With Fury Road having been out over a year now I would have thought someone would have been interested in releasing a kit!

Hey Snaze,
I'm showing my age here, but I've been a huge Max fan since I snuck out of bed when I was nine years old and watched the original Mad Max back in the 70's.

I've been looking for Max models for over a year (since I took up modeling) and have had no luck. Really don't understand it, I would have thought there would be models galore considering all the vehicles in those movies. For the record, I sometimes grab hot wheels and thought that by now there would be a die cast Max line.

Anyway, good luck on the hunt and please share if you find anything.

I had an interceptor model from the '80s. The local hobby shop has a lot of older stuff in the back and I'd be happy to keep an eye out for you guys.

Aoshima used to make kits of the Interceptor both Mad Max 1 and 2 versions
Don't know if they're still available though

Yeah I did Google it but the only kits that seem available are hideously expensive (especially the Aoshima).

As far as I know, they've been a few scale kits of the Interceptor made. Like Craig G mentioned, Aoshima. ( never made that one ) A resin curbside by an Australian company Caviler models ( fairly hard to get now. Made that one, and I'm actually redoing it lol ) and lastly there was a diecast 1:24 scale back in the late 90s, by..... I'm not sure. I want to say Jada. But I'd probably be wrong

Now heres the thing. Another Australian company called The Parts Box make both the XB GT Falcon coupe, and a GT four door sedan in curbside resin. As well as the XB "Aussie Police Pack" aka, the Big Bopper's XB four door MFP patrol car. You can find them here. http://www.thepartsbox.com/store/index.php

Of course. Being the the GT versions, there will be some scratch building involved. But damn it. We're modelers ain't we? Lol.

Contact Michelle Richter at the site above, and she'll be able to help you out. Average AUD price is $83, or $94 for the Big Boppers car. Just use XE.com, and it'll give you an idea in your currency.

Also, just incase. Nope, I'm not affiliated with TPB. But the Richter's are good people.

OhOh, and they also make a HQ Holden GTS coupe as well. Wtf is a HQ Holden? I hear you ask. Its the base car for the Intercepter the NightRider steals, and totals in the first flick. Lol. Been meaning to get 1, or 4 of these for years.

Mad Max
has never gotten adequate models because those are Aussie vehicles which don't have as much popularity in general.

It's easier for the companies to pop out something like a Fast & Furious Charger or a Jack Reacher Chevelle because regular stock Charger & Chevelle kits already exist. The Hollywood franchise version are invariably just the stock kit with a few added parts or alterations. The alternate parts for the stock version are often still right there on the mold trees.

Honestly, when it comes to an Internceptor kit on the cheap, it'd be easier to kit-bash one together than to purchase a kit. Most of the ones that have formerly been produced often have drastic inaccuracies or are well done and expensive. I've included some examples of kit-bashed models for the Interceptor in this thread here, and have come to realize that for the U.S. market, the best combination for the body is the roof and rear sections of a Revell 1970 2'n'1 Ford Torino and the front fenders to the doors and the hood of a 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 model to get the right body shape, and scratch build the Concorde front end and use the very tail end of the Ford Mustang with some additional details added to get close to how the very rear looks. I came to these combinations from a comparison of the Ford Mustang and Ford Torino with the Ford Falcon on the official Mad Max fan page. But many others have used the front end of a 1980s Chevy Camaro with the combination of a 1970 Shelby Mustang, amongst many other models they've done.
