Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor:

Re: Machined Iron Man RT

And this is where I am at. Sucking it up and doing all of the windings today wasnt in the cards.

Next stop is to finish up the remaining bits, electrical, and start in on the case.

Thanks to all who helped out with the font question I had yesterday.
This is very impressive. I think I've got a new project!

CNC... Hmmm...

Tony stark made his in a cave, out of scrap!!!

Seriously though, amazing work. If the kit ever comes about, I'd love one..

OK What about a plastic injection model kit with simple electronics wiring and a clear resin light up ring? some metallic parts can be pre-painted chrome or metallic paint.

Re: Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor: New Post #153

I have to tell you how admirative I am for your work.
I wonder I could have your hands ... and your tools :)

Re: Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor: New Post #153

Either a kit I at least a parts listing and the prints for the custom machined pieces would be real nice.

LOL don't ask for much eh. ;) As far as I know he offered his drawing up a few posts back,

This Arc Reactor is BEAUTIFUL!! A truly amazing piece of work!

I guess I will have to live with my JmTwo/GG Proof Box, (which I do love) but it doesn't get much better than your little project here!!(y)thumbsup

Re: Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor: New Post #153

I'd go for a kit as well, provided it doesn't blow my bank account.

Good luck with finding the perfect value for money solution.

I have been PMing Jason about this and he has made it clear that he doesn’t have the time or desire to produce a kit for this prop.

I have looked at the drawing he posted and I can not understand how he built his reactor from them

When I pull it up all I see is this:

I am completely confused on how this drawing could be used to create the reactor that he built.

Am I missing something?

Hi Boba

I checked the file and it opens just fine.

It is an autocad file...you need to be using some sort of cad software that opens .dwg files.

As for "desire"....you might want to check out post 156. I found that the reality of reproducing this prop entirely in metal to be quite cost prohibitive.

If you have other resources that is great.....I shopped it around to 5 CNC companies in the US...and quite frankly I think their quotes were fair...its just a lot of parts as shown which quickly added up.

Hopefully you have better luck with the numbers than I did.

Take care

Jason

I was wondering what the deal was. I downloaded a viewer and the above screen shot is all I see when I open the file. I guess I need to get some autocad software to fully understand the drawings.

I have had parts machined for many Active Projects so I have a fair amount of experience when it comes to guest-ti-mating the overall cost of a project. Based of the pictures you provided I can not see these parts costing more then $400 in groups of 50

This type of prop is perfect for an Active Project.

I am seriously thinking about posting an interest thread to see if at least 50 other people want to make one of these.

Hi, I was very impressed with the quality of the finished piece and saw some people were having trouble understanding the CAD drawing that has been posted here for download.
To help, I have produced a 3D CAD version.
I will post link as soon as I can.

Here are the images

To explain for people who don't understand what they are seeing when opening the DWG file. Each color represents a layer in the overall assembly. In AutoCAD and many other CAD systems, you can turn off layers you don't need so you can focus on certain ones. The DWG that was provided is every single layer as an assembly in the 3 critical views required to reproduce the part in 3D (Top, Front and Side).

If you want to only see a fin for example, open the DWG and go to the layer manager (any CAD program or viewer worth anything will have this), and click the little lightbulb to turn off each layer you don't need.

How about dimensions, like exact sizes? It'd be nice for a friendly competition build.

Some of the best work i have ever seen gartz :)

is it possible to poste the link again i cant seem to get it to work just gives me a lot of random text and signs

Thx :)
