Luthen Rael's Macrobinoculars from Star Wars: Andor Identified

I have a working theory. I think it is a movie camera or large format camera lens versus a still picture camera. They also have aperture shutters and more importantly, manual focus arms typically. That’s assuming that that arm wasn’t just added separately and is legitimately part of the camera assembly. I also think that it’s a partial lens assembly. Like, maybe there was a rubber focus ring on the end, where that smooth stair step is or some other type of lens assembly that has been removed.

Yes, you’re right, it does look like something is missing. Good call. Of course, that just makes the search even more difficult!

Great project (y) Now, I am looking for the Zeiss too. Is this the correct one?

I think that one is essentially the same one as well. Honestly though I don’t know how that 45° adapter attaches. On mine (the first one you posted) the chrome ring shaped adapter is threaded and ultimately can be unscrewed with enough torque. I have to think that that 45° adapter would attach the same way? But I don’t know…

I got the second one, with the 45° adapter, which just unscrews. However, the first one is better since you are virtually done, even without finding the proper lens. what I mean is, the part that is there is very close to what we want. When you unscrew that 45° piece what you’re left with looks like “oh it’s missing a piece“.

I ordered the second microscope piece ... Now, I need the lens.
But to be honest ... I was lost in space with the discussion.
What is or might be the correct lens for Luthen's Macrobinoculars?

So I wonder why the arm is trapped in that little (what looks like a) 3d printed piece? Would the lens fall off if the actor tried to move it, necessitating the block?

I thought that spreading the binoculars would move the arm and open and close the iris. Similar to the function of the ring in the sequel trilogy.

Here’s where I am. All of this is put together with e6000 so I can (hopefully) remove it as we find real parts or other things become clearer. Idle thoughts:

1. In a moment of weakness I added a lens from an old Polaroid Landcamera. Clearly not accurate but it helped me kind of size up the rest.
2. Cut the little guide piece on the bandsaw out of delrin. For those wondering if the “focus arm” was from the microscope, you can see in the last pic that rebel agent is correct, it’s not the right part. It’s way too large.
3. The actual eye piece “holders” are too long, given the pictures of Luthen holding it up close to his face. I figure they either removed them or cut them down. I don’t want to cut them down until I know so I opted to remove them and use some generic rubber eye cups that I had instead. Looking at some of the screen captures, I feel like this isn’t right either. It looks like on one of them there’s a bit of a bulge, which could be the diopter adjustment ring from the eyepiece holder. Hard to say, with the limited view we have. Maybe they did cut them down.
4. My model has flat screws, where the one that Luthen is holding has Phillips head. I might try to replace them, or I might try to mock up a faux-Phillips head to cover them.
5. Pretty sure I got the position of the imperial disk wrong as well.

The original eye pieces are correct. They were just cut down and new eye pieces added.
The top greeblie is not an Imperial disc.
Work is underway to figure out all of the exact parts and exact measurements for cutting.
The main lens is a combination of at least three parts maybe more.
